Featured Replies

hi all

i have just started work on an old wadkin 24" jointer thicknesser it is in fair condition and i will only be doing the minimum strip down and clean up ( checking bearings etc) to get the old girl running again.

be looking for a 300mm wide jointer for a while and this monster came up for $1000 australian .

$ 500 to move and i am hoping $ 500 at most for parts and disposables .

i am looking for any information on this model especial modern bearing codes .

Scott,

I just sent a message to a member that is heavy into Wadkin machinery.

When he gets back to me I'll forward the information from his reply.

thanks john lewis and larry

yes she will be a great machine , so east to take apart ( nice cut threads into cast ) no threaded or stripped heads.

just bloody heavy ..

removed the cutter head and will need to replace the bearings one has collapsed so very pleased i decided to give the old girl an look over . trying to source bearings at the moment

i worked on a machine like this during my apprenticeship in England in the late eighties

it will be noisy but will eat wood even aussie hardwood ( and man some of that is hard as nails )

also need to replace the bed roller bearings and housings . as they have damage . might try and mill the housings in aluminium on the small cnc i have been trying to master .ning-dscn6115-11728-34.jpg?width=721ning-dscn6119-11728-94.jpg?width=721

whoa.....that thing is bigger than my entire shop!!!!!!!!!!!

Scott,

The bandsaw looks like it was made by the Sidney Tool Co. that was located in Sidney Ohio.

The company was founded in 1905.

Sidney Tool Co. sold their woodworking machines under the Famous brand name.
