Friday, July 5th, What's on Your Woodworking Agenda?

Featured Replies

Hope all had a wonderful 4th of July. It has been an awesome week here in Florence, Alabama. What a wonderful time we have had with our great friends here on TPW. I think I have probably wore them out taking them everywhere and trying to show them our little area.

So we started out the week with a boat ride on another of our members boat, well yacht, that Ron built. It is all wood, with the hull covered with Epoxy. A beautiful yacht.

The rest of us were out on the bow.

ning-img-0805-11711-29.jpgWe took a cruse up the river to the Lock at Wilson Dam. This is the largest single lift lock east of the Rockies.

Allen and Tami relaxing on the back deck as we go under O'Neal bridge.

ning-img-0803-11711-27.jpgAfter a relaxing day on the yacht we took the next day to visit a couple of local homes in the area.

We went to Helen Keller's birthplace.

ning-img-0846-11711-18.jpgHere is the pump where Helen first learn the word "Water" from Anne Sullivan.

ning-img-0824-11711-11.jpgEverything in the house is original furniture to the house and this is a selection of Helen's cloths.

ning-img-0819-11711-72.jpg?width=750The dining room where Helen ate with her hands and thru temper fits.

Beautiful furniture in the house and many original Shaker style pieces.

After that we stopped by the Frank Lloyd Wright home that is here in Florence,

ning-img-0859-11711-93.jpgThis home was designed for the Rosenbaum family in Florence. They owned all of the movie theaters here at one time. Frank Lloyd Wright also designed all of the furniture. What is interesting is the furniture is all made of plywood.

ning-img-0858-11711-47.jpgA shot of the living room. Everything is built in and all space is used.

ning-img-0860-11711-7.jpgThe back which is really the front of the house is glass so you can see all of the property. They also all open up to allow air flow through the house since there was no air conditioning when it was built.

We then finished up the evening sitting on the back deck of the boat and watched the fireworks show. The fireworks were shot from a barge in the middle of the Tennessee River.

I think we wore them out but had a great time with them all here. What a wonderful time it was meeting and sharing with woodworkers I have talked to here on the site for a long time but never sat across the table and talked to. It was fun being here together.

Thanks for coming down and we hope you will come back soon.

Here we are with the wives after the ride on the river.

So what are you all doing this weekend. Our friends will be driving back to Indiana. I have therapy today and they putting together a few things in the shop. Later tonight is First Friday in Florence. We will be setting up our booth and hopefully selling a few boards.

What's on your agenda, we here at TPW are always interest in your projects. Show us what you are doing and give us plenty of pictures.

Hurry up I am waiting to see what you are doing.

Wow, you guys really had a grand time. It looks like you all had so much fun. Great photos, and thanks for letting us enjoy them.

Got the last coat of finish on the never ending gun cabinet project. Still have to rub it down and wax it, lay in some green felt, have the lexan cut and installed, hang the doors and install the locks and, attach the drawer fronts. Then, set it aside until it can be delivered.

This weekend, hope to get it all rubbed down and waxed and, lay in the felt. Monday, get the lexan cut and maybe install the doors. Also, hope to get the shop cleaned again and at least start on assembling the 2nd Shopsmith, which will entail some major reorganization.

Early Wednesday, we head for TN for wife's family reunion and MEET OUR SON AND FAMILY!!! Their first time on homeland soil for 4 years. We are excited!

Ya'll have a great weekend.

Trying to figure out if I can reuse the pieces I cut for a segmented bowl pattern. After I started to assemble the pieces, I discovered one of the measurements was off. UUUGGGHHH!!!

John,

We are headed to Sevierville, near Dollywood. Not our choice for a place to be. Too muggy and too congested for this desert rat. But, every five years one family chooses a location and makes all the arrangements. Phyllis has 8 siblings and each of them had several children. One had 11! There were 134 at the last reunion in CO, which we hosted. Over 150 are expected this year.

John,

Believe it or Not.

Cutting and hauling firewood, a friend took a side job clearing a lot.

So far I have hauled 3- 6'x10'x3' loads out from the lot.

I should get the last load tomorrow, it won't quite be a full load.

I'm way ahead compared to last year, but my shoulder is really screaming at me.

Now to cut it to 16" lengths, split, stack, etc.....

Lew we were in Sevierville at a time share over Memorial Day week.  We arrived back in Indiana with the Worshams today just in time to enjoy a patriotic concert by a local orchestra.  John didn't wear us out at all.  When you're with friends, the time goes way too quickly.  We had a blast and can't wait for the next trip to Alabama, y'all.

Honey-do list.     She has a top for a table, and wants to have it standing in the dining room this week end.    Problem?    Nobody has finished making four legs and four aprons for this "fake" butcher block table top to SIT on.     Looks like I'll be heading to the Dungeon Shop in the morning.

Planer? I'm the 'planer', and these are what I use...

Steve,

You are faster with a plane than most are with a saw. I have faith you'll be up to the task. If not, blame it on the meds.

Gene that is about six hours past me. If you get bored give us a call and swing down through Alabama on your way back.
