Milling up some wood

Featured Replies

Got the barn Siding to the Dungeon shop.   Needed to cut it down a bit to make some things easier to do.  Two were to be  a Table top.    These boards had a Tongue & Groove joint milled on them.  They might as well go.  Cut one slab down to about 26" long, got two chunks out of it.

Next, Taking off a groove is easy, if the right plane is aroundning-sdc15489-11599-30.jpg?width=750Go the length until those narrow strips become one wide onening-sdc15495-11599-88.jpg?width=750Then switch to a better jack plane to joint the edge, at least on these shorter boardsning-sdc15496-11599-81.jpg?width=750Then rotate and take the tongue off the same way.    After awhile, I had the two planks for the top, almost glue-readyning-sdc15490-11599-71.jpg?width=750Not too bad.    Now there is ( or was) this 8' long one.    One end was a little beat upning-sdc15493-11599-89.jpg?width=750and the other end had a foot long split growing up the middle.  Grabbed a handsawning-sdc15494-11599-28.jpg?width=750and got rid of the bad parts, this shot shows where a few nails and a big knot were hiding,   Now it hiding in the scrap bin. ning-sdc15497-11599-31.jpg?width=750Started to clean off all the crud, now you see why all the work was for. Gray line is where the Double Dutch 4"  halves came together.   May leave this side as is.    Took awhile, but it  was fun to do....

Got the rest of the boards milled down a bitning-sdc15498-11604-97.jpg?width=721As for the shop I am working in?  I call it The Dungeon Shopning-sdc15500-11604-13.jpg?width=721Igor needs to clean all that "Mulch" up and get out to the fence rows.  As for a "plane Till, or a Saw Till?ning-sdc15499-11604-7.jpg?width=721Both are getting a might full.  As for selecting a plane to use?    Just walk up, look down to see which plane is which, pull it out, use it, and then back in it's "slot" it goes.  Trying to find a spot for the small planes, like the blocks, and that Wards clone 0f a #78.  Might need another drawer, someday??

Steve, that old drawer looks like it's made for plane storage. Nice find, speaking of find, where did you get this latest batch of reclaimed lumber from?

Might get some more "Wood Porn"  tomorrow, IF I can get to some....
