Milling up some wood, part two

Ok, boards being boards, I found that these were cupped.    That groove down the center was splitting as well.    Might as well split them down, and clean them up.     One plank, took about two hits with a big hammer, and I had a pair to plane the edgesning-sdc15501-11534-90.jpg?width=750I almost tried out a rip sawning-sdc15502-11534-13.jpg?width=750But the only one working today  was that long pointy on, too much like work.   Used a couple jack planes to work the edges downning-sdc15508-11534-76.jpg?width=750Then a few passes with this #6 small jointer.   A look at the "before"?ning-sdc15510-11534-82.jpg?width=750Pretty, ain't it?   Once the edges were done, and parrallel to each other ( in other words, the same width the whole length)Time to work on the facesning-sdc15504-11534-27.jpg?width=750Stanley Four Square Junior Jack got things down past the "paint" layers, thenning-sdc15512-11534-56.jpg?width=750The Re-Built DE6c smoothed the face the entire length.   Nice and flat, too.    Take a good look at them shavings?  Once the board's face was flat, and leveled out,  a smooth plane or two finished things upning-sdc15509-11534-94.jpg?width=750This Stanley Defiance #4 did most of the work, since I was still on the look out for old metal stuff in the wood, seemed to work okning-sdc15513-11534-42.jpg?width=750This is one nice LIGHT plane.  A might fussy to set, but stays put.   As for the Fancy smooth plane?ning-sdc15505-11534-1.jpg?width=750Once I was sure there wasn't anything IN the wood, but wood, I took this one for a few swipes.

Still have a couple more planks to mill down, lunch break, you know?   I did make a nice BIG mess on the benchning-sdc15514-11534-47.jpg?width=750and, (Where is that Igor guy at, anyway?) a bigger one on the floorning-sdc15515-11534-60.jpg?width=750Just a "normal morning"  down in the Dungeon Shop....

That re-built DE6c made some ribbons!      Quarter sawn Pine?     or just vertical grain??

Might have to keep them ribbon shavings.    Make a bow out of them???

This is what a "Try" plane does best, levels a face of a board nice and flat.     The Junior Jack wasn't too bad, either..

Just some "Wood Porn"....
