July 12, 201313 yr Well I picked a couple of planes today and I have one more on the way. First up was a Stanley 220 Block plane. As always, they got way too much rust on them. This one might have been used pretty hard as most all of the japanning on the heel is gone. The knob on the front has a few nicks but not major cracks or breaks. The bottom will need to be lapped but the rust has got to be removed first. The iron has the Stanley Rule and Level logo and Made in USA stamped on it. The next one was another transition plane, I think this one will have to get the full treatment. It is pretty rough. This one is a Stanley No. 27 Transition Plane. There is a chip at the top of the tote. Has the STANLEY logo on the top of the blade and one patent date of April 09,xx,92 The lever has the STANLEY logo and three patent dates on it. But I think it is too far gone as a collector so I will refurbish it and it will become a shelf piece. I didn't get to paint the others as I had company tonight so I will have plenty to do starting the weekend. John MoodySite AdministratorJohn Moody Woodworkshttp://www.johnmoodywoodworks.com
July 12, 201313 yr I may try going after one that is on ebay right now, it's a bit rusty but has original paint on it too or looks like it http://www.ebay.com/itm/Vintage-Stanley-No-220-Block-Plane-7-Long-2... I'll have to see what the old pocket book says Yep pocket book said go for it but I found a different one (a different model) going for less than $5 so I am pecking at it to see if I can get it cheaply. I am going to start working on the one I had in the morning getting the old rust off of it and trying to clean it up some to see what all i have to do with it. I had set it aside because I was wanting to get old orders out of the way for wood turning and also just get up the nerve to make a proper knob for it. my only problem there is that I do not have the right size drill bit for the screw so i will have to improvise or measure the screw diameter after I clean it up Charles NichollsSite Hostnicholls61@att.netProud supporter of The Wounded Warrior Project, Homes For Our Troops and the NRAhttp://www.etsy.com/shop/nichollswoodworks
July 12, 201313 yr Was out on an Ohio Rust Hunt today...About $10 worth of rustiness?   Iron was in bass-ackwards.   Adjuster wheel was frozen in place.   Maybe a day to get it right.   Found some other "stuff" as wellCouple of small saws, and a couple old chisels.    Might have to dig the lathe out later? Planer? I'm the 'planer', and these are what I use...
July 12, 201313 yr Author Some nice finds Steve. What kind of bolt is that sticking out of the shorter saw?John MoodySite AdministratorJohn Moody Woodworkshttp://www.johnmoodywoodworks.com
