Friday, July 12th, What's On Your Woodworking Agenda this Weekend?

Featured Replies

A slight set back for me with my shoulder. I went back to work Monday and I work sitting at a computer all day. The moving of my hand back and forth from the keyboard to the mouse has irritated the muscle in the shoulder I had repaired so I am not suppose to be doing any of that today and this weekend. So I guess no shop work that requires my right arm either.

But I was able to get a few things done in the shop last night. Well let me rephrase that. Andrew, my son got some things done while I watched and handed him things with my left hand.

So I have been wanting to get several of my tools that are close together all connected to the dust collection system. I have been just moving the hose from one to the other as I use them. So I got in this three way outlet and we got it glued in place last night.

So I have a gate on each connection going to each machine. The only thing that will have to change is where this hangs down. It is right over my work bench so all of the 4" hose in now in the way. But that will be an easy fix for him this weekend.

So this drops down and now catches my drum sander, Router table and I put a 4" connection at the bottom and a 2 1/2" connection at the top, and my Oscillating belt/spindle sander. Once the tree at the top is moved over all of the connections will be just above and behind all three pieces of equipment. I ran the 4" down to the drum sander and then reduced it at the connection to the 2 1/2". Amazing how much more suction I have at the drum now. Also increasing the 4" at the bottom of my router table really pulls the dust from there.

So other than maybe spray painting some planes with my left hand, that will be about it for me in the shop this weekend.

But what about you, what is on your agenda this weekend, new project, old project, show, home improvement, HDL or just some R&R around the house? We here at TPW are interested in your projects and shop so please share with us what you are working on this weekend. You might inspire someone else to give it a try or answer a question they have.

So get with it, show or tell us about your weekend agenda.

Nice setup there John.

I hope to one day get some sort of dust collection system going here that I can run while turning or using the band saw. I am thinking even more about just getting a box fan with a filter taped down to it. It would be better than waiting until the mess is made to clean it up (which is basically what I do now) and certainly better than nothing. :)

s for what is to be done this weekend, I am probably going to do a bit of work on the old Union plane and also finishing up the Egg cup and making a few more. other than that maybe a few eggs too. I was hoping the new headstocck would be here today, bu it hasn't arrived yet, nor has the order from PSI that I made a week or more ago. I put in a status request on that order, but haven't heard anything yet. ;/

I'll be calling them Monday if it doesn't arrive tomorrow.

Gettysburg remnants Lew?  Dorothy decided that we needed one more narrow side table like I made a couple of weeks ago so I'm making two of them.  One for her and one to sell at a show in a couple of weeks.  I have the legs turned and the tops made so today I'll be cutting a whole bunch of tenons and drilling mortises.  Oh yeah, I need to start painting trim on the house.

Above and Beyond WoodWorks

Speaking of shoulders, i have one week left to do pt. (Don't know if i posted here about rotator cuff surgery.)

Doc said i can do a 1/2 swing for golf but no full swing until sept.

I think i'm going to finish cleaning up my shop so i'll be able to get back to compleating my outfeed table for my tablesaw.

Rich.

I just keep hammering away.

No woodworking for me until August when my wife goes back to work. I currently have a bunch of boxes and tubs in my shop from my wife's classroom which she had to bring home since she taught 3 weeks of summer school in the high school autism program as opposed to her typical K-1 autism class that a different teacher taught. She had to remove all of her personal stuff used in the classroom so that it would not get used/abused/stolen which is something that has happened in the past. We just got back home yesterday from our 2 week road trip to help move our son and daughter in law from California to Indianapolis for his new job. Along the way we got to visit with some friends and family as well over the 12 state trek and 5,000 plus miles. Today we get to do some shopping and organizing after our trip as well as replacing our kitchen faucet which started to drip underneath while we were gone.

Rich, I am not sure I remember you saying anything about it. Man I hope you get that swing going. I have one more week of PT also. Friday though when I went, I couldn't raise my arm. After they checked it I had inflammation in the muscle that goes under the one that was repaired. So they told me to take it easy and only do the motion exercises and no strength exercises.

Next week is my last week then back to the Dr. to see what's next.

There's nothing like the freedom of being debt free, even if it's just for a short time.
