July 22, 201312 yr While taking our granddaughter home today we made a couple of side stops at a few locations that looked good for rust hunting. The first one I walked into I had this feeling there was a buyer plane in there and walked all around the place and was about to leave and saw on last room. Yet there on top of an antique dresser was a Stanley No.26 Transition place. Looked and no price. Searched down the help and he looked at it and said it wasn't for sale! What do you mean it wasn't for sale, it is sitting out with the rest of the stuff. The owner wants to keep it. Oh well it had the top of the handle cracked off and looked as though it had bug holes in it. I would have offered up to 10 dollars for it but he said it wasn't for sale.Leaving there we drove down the road about a mile and stopped at another place.within about 5 minutes of being in the building I spot a Stanley. Pick it up and it is a No.5. But they wanted 29.95 and the handle had been cracked into and a poor repair made The knob had a few cracks running from it. Other than that the body looked okay but it didn't just light me up so I put it back down.I turned and saw a small block place and examined it. No name that I could find on it. All it said on the cutter was PATENTED. So I put it back together and gently put it on the shelf. Two booths over and here was another Stanley on the shelf. A Stanley 4 square with a Sweet Heart logo on the cutter. The front know was bad loose and had lots of slack. I didn't have a screw driver to see if it would tighten any more. Man they wanted 49 dollars for it. i rubbed on it for while and didn't get any strong vibes so I reluctantly put it down and slowly walked away.Four planes today found and none of them left the store with me. That has to be a record. But it does show you they are out there if you will just look around and know what you want to spendWell there will be another day to rescue some for the life on a show case.Until then, I will just keep looking.I would be interested in a Stanley Tools sign if any of you were to run across one with a reasonable price attached to it. Please keep me in mind should you run across one.John MoodySite AdministratorJohn Moody Woodworkshttp://www.johnmoodywoodworks.com
July 22, 201312 yr I think your tool corral is getting filled up with planes John! Now it's time to look for old bow saws, chisels, marking gauges, wood handled screw drivers, old saws etc. Time to diversify!!! John MorrisThe Patriot Woodworker

July 22, 201312 yr I'll keep an eye out, John. There is a "Tool Man" place near here. I stop sometimes when searching for a present for a friend. He has benches full of old planes- wood thru more modern. Â Next time I'm there, I'll check them out. July 22, 201312 yr Author Thanks Lew, that is awesome. And keep you eye out of a Stanley Tools sign. I would love to have one to put up in the shop. Doesn't have to be a large one.Lewis Kauffman said: I'll keep an eye out, John. There is a "Tool Man" place near here. I stop sometimes when searching for a present for a friend. July 22, 201312 yr $17 for a coffin smoothie?I did buy that red one, since the frog was a York pitch, for $8.    As for the older Stanley #5, they wanted $12 for it, but someone else got it, before I got back to it. This one is still there, and at $65 will still be there.Last I looked around up there, that old Worth plane had sold. No lever cap even, and it was $7? However, I did win a strange little red plane last night, for about $8.80 counting S&H. Might be fun.... Planer? I'm the 'planer', and these are what I use...
July 22, 201312 yr Author I'll have to show you a picture of a Worth plane I passed on that was about like that one only it did have the lever cap but they wanted $30.00.John MoodySite AdministratorJohn Moody Woodworkshttp://www.johnmoodywoodworks.com
July 22, 201312 yr Part of a two plane set, from an antique store, $20 for two planes.   Old Blue is by Worth. Planer? I'm the 'planer', and these are what I use...
July 24, 201312 yr Uh oh. You guys have awakened a monster in me LOL. So many tools out there that have busted handles that I could be turning, then turn around and sell again Yep good thing I don't have much money or room or I'd be in trouble right about now GRIN.
