Other Hand Tools I have picked up

Featured Replies

John Morris said in one of his post to me that I needed to start collecting some other tools to go with the hand planes.

Well I had actually already been doing that. Some of these I may have posted before and if so please bear with me.

Here are a few of the old tools I got from my dad's shop when he passed away.

ning-img-0311-11081-73.jpgA Millers Falls Level, an old ball pen hammer, and a Craftsman hand saw that still has the etching on it and a tooth guard still in place.

Then I was out one day and picked up a couple of screw drivers.

ning-img-0302-11081-35.jpgThe two small wooden handle ones still have the Irwin logos on them. Made in the '60's. The Yankee Screwdriver at the bottom is a Millers Falls 610A. Still has part of the logo on the handle and it will operate in both directions. The folding ruler is a Lufkin 8' with the brass extension and red tips. It is in excellent condition.

ning-img-0306-11081-83.jpgYankee screwdriver has a Patented date of 1924 I believe could be '25.

ning-img-0308-11081-99.jpgThe two Irwin's have the logo and size on them. My dad had this little phillips head wooden screw driver. It doesn't have any logo on it but look much like the others.

ning-img-0314-11081-45.jpgThe drill on the left is a Ward. The one on the right just says Made in U.S.A. Both are in very good condition.

ning-img-0309-11081-74.jpgI also got these two Starrett's one with the original box.

And I have picked up a couple of old rusty saws.

ning-img-0312-11081-76.jpgThe three on the right all have Disston medallions. The bottom right has a Disston medallion and an Otasco price tag of 3.84 on it.

The saw on the upper left is a Pennsylvania Saw Co saw with that type of Medallion. The other one has not writing on it of any kind that I can locate. Not really sure where or why I picked it up. The Pennsylvania saw still has the etching on the blade. It is very faint but it is there.

By the way if you want to try to date your Disston by Medallions here is a Link to a great site that will help you.

They went to this type logo in 1940. If it has an Eagle then it is pre 1940.

ning-medallions-11081-93.jpgSo those are a few of the other items beside Hand Planes I have picked up either online or at Flea Markets or Antique stores. You would be surprised what you can find if you just look around.

Oh and I also picked up this Stanley saw.

I got some of those too from my Dad. The Yankee screwdriver brings back a lot of good memories.

Drilled more holes than I can remember with the old brace.

You know at the time I didn't think too much about some of the tools he had. Most were nothing really special but now that I let them get away, I wish I had kept them all.

Same here, John. At the time I thought they were just some old tools that I would never use.

Nice John!!!!! I do recall now some of the tools you have posted before, but I love that old Craftsman saw, looks like a 70 vintage maybe? Very nice!!!

Can you believe that as recent as the 1980's electricians were still using those Yankees to mount their boxes such with? Just before the advent of the portable screw gun.

Great finds John, you been a busy tool hunter!

  • 4 months later...

OK, I'm officially old.  I have a set of those wooden handled screwdrivers in my toolbox that I personally bought years ago.  Geesh.

I'm gonna have to check out Ernies.  I'm going to be in St. Augustine in a couple of months.

Ernie's looks interesting. Might give me a reason to go check it out one day.
