July 26, 201313 yr comment_11056 Found a few items, and passed on a lot more, in just one yard sale!  Items passed on? Ryobi job site 10" table saw. @$175 Stanley Liberty Bell 127 @ $10 four egg-beater drills, and a brace, cheapest was $22?? Mitre saw with two back saws, badly resharpened if at all. @ $20??  four horse collars, didn't as  Bought these treasures  the lever cap was fifty cents, the body was a dollar, saw set was $3, and that big piece of wood that looks like a plane was $15.  Plane is a Stanley #31 Fore plane, with a 2-3/8" wide iron. Knob was loose, but solid. Tote needs a horn added. Iron and chip breaker looked good. Lever cap will need a clean up. The only issue with the big guy is right up front on the soleThat dark area?  Someone used the heck out of this old plane.  Another view shows whyAlmost a 1/4" is worn away!   Mainly on that one corner, nothing else is bad on the sole. Sitting on the rear bumper is a saw set, a plane base for a Stanley block plane, and a cap iron for it.  Total spent at this single stop?  $19.50    Not too bad a day? Planer? I'm the 'planer', and these are what I use... Report

July 26, 201313 yr Author comment_11061 It would appear the the base for the block plane is a #18-1/4 size.   The cap iron for an 18-1/4 is a knuckle style one, so, one is on the way here.  Cap iron may be a Sargent one, or a Stanley, but it fits the 220 series of planes.  Which I do not need. The # 31 is about 1890s era.   chipbreaker even has a Bailey's Patent of DEC 24 1867.  Still trying to figure out that saw set tool....    Only thing on it is a USA 98 cast into a handle.  Planer? July 27, 201313 yr Author comment_11060 Anybody care for more photos??base for the block plane, all cleaned up. Apparently, Mister Morris has a trademarked saw set tool, from about 1896?and... the big guy!  Stanley No. 31 fore plane.  All metal parts are cleaned up, iron was given a sharpening on it's cambered edge. need to work on the wood parts, nextone big plane... July 27, 201313 yr Author comment_11057 Block plane base is to a Stanley #18 1/4I have a late edition knuckle cap on the way, watching a lateral lever on feebay, and planning a trip to Home Despot for a $2.98 iron to get this $1 base back to like new.  These were like another plane, except there was no adjustable throat on the 18 1/4s, plus everything was nickel plated on an 18 1/4 whereas the other ones were brass equipted  Might be a "rare, vintage" plane coming up?Planer?
