August 3, 201312 yr I bought a strange looking antique draw shave at a yard sale. Every draw shave I have ever seen is symmetric - both handles are at the same angle coming off the blade. This one has one pointing down, perpendicular to the blade, the other going straight out, parallel to the blade. Does anyone know what the name of such a draw shave is or how it is used?It doesn't look like its been purposely bentThanks for any helpFrank

August 5, 201312 yr Author Hi John - No, I didn't track that down, but I guess I could have. Its a coopers jigger or draw shave, and I imagine its used when working on barrels that have already been put together, the part that sticks out probably held inside the barrel, since the curve of the rim would interfere otherwise.John Morris said: Frank, did you figure out how this particular shave is used?Frank Lane said: John MorrisThe Patriot Woodworker
