August 7, 201312 yr Some 15 years ago my I was going to build a golf ball display rack to put my collection of logo golf balls on. My dad went with me to the mill work to pick up this Ash. On the way home he ask if I would like him to build it for me. So I told him if he wanted to sure I would love to have him build it. This sits in my office and holds ~320 golf balls. I have another one at home about half the size in the den downstairs. It started out to hold my collection of places I played golf, but then I got golf balls from everywhere so there all there. I also have a large bucket full in the garage with no where else to put them. He drilled a small hole for each ball to sit in. I was sitting here today looking at this and was just thinking about the day we picked up the lumber. John MoodySite AdministratorJohn Moody Woodworkshttp://www.johnmoodywoodworks.com
August 7, 201312 yr Author Oh and a funny story about this rack and balls. I have all the balls on there with the logo's of similar companies. In other words all the Insurance company balls are together, all the sports logo ball are together, all the places I have played are together. One day I came back to the office after lunch and was sitting at my desk on the phone and looking at the rack. I noticed a couple of ball that were not where they should have been. There was a lady that watched our office during lunch so I call her and she came to the office. I ask her if someone came in during lunch that would have messed with the golf balls, cause people are always pulling things on each other. She said no one was there, why? I told her some of the balls were not where they should have been. She pleaded, "Surly you don't know where every ball on the rack goes?" I explained how there were and she said, "I was dusting the rack during lunch and bumped it and it turned over, golf balls went everywhere. I thought I was doing good to just get them all rounded up and back on there before you got back. I had no idea they had special places."We got a good laugh out of it. So one day when it was slow, I sat here and put them all back in order. I really do have a problem don't I?John MoodySite AdministratorJohn Moody Woodworkshttp://www.johnmoodywoodworks.com

August 8, 201312 yr John, 320? Man could I have fun with these. I've been at war with the golf course that brought us the subdivision behind us for a few years now. I made a cannon out of schedule 80 pvc, and can hit the golf course from 1/4 mile.   Nice memory of a time with your father though.  Larry Old Woodworking Machinery Forum Host

August 8, 201312 yr John, I am rolling with laughter, there is name for that disorder you have and I cannot recall what it is right now! Funny! And the fact that Dad made that one, is way cool, what a neat thing to have to remember Dad by, very cool. That is a lot of golf balls!!!! That must of taken forever to build!John Moody said: Oh and a funny story about this rack and balls. I have all the balls on there with the logo's of similar companies. August 8, 201312 yr Author What's even worse John, Is I have to make sure the logos are all turned straight out. Drives me crazy to see them turned sideways or off center.John MoodySite AdministratorJohn Moody Woodworkshttp://www.johnmoodywoodworks.com
August 8, 201312 yr John,That is truly a fine collection of golf balls. Â The case that holds them being made by your dad is even more special. Â My father has also passed away. Â I have in my possession a one step oak stool he made and used for years. Â It's very simple and even has a few stains on it from his use. Â I think of him every time I look at it, and every time I use it. Â For me it's another way to keep his memory alive.SQÂ Happiness is wood chips flying!
August 9, 201312 yr Author Thanks for all the complements. It did take a while to collect all of the golf balls. I used to play golf six days a week in the summer, I would have played seven but the closed on Monday to do course maintenance. Since they were closed on Monday, I used to travel with our club pro and play in Pro/Am tournaments around the state.John I think they call that Obsessive Compulsive Disorder. Not sure I really have it but some things like that just get to me.There are times when you reflect and remember things you learned from your parents that you really didn't know at the time you were learning. It is nice to sit back some days and just let your mind run free. Just don't do it too long, it may not find it ways back!John MoodySite AdministratorJohn Moody Woodworkshttp://www.johnmoodywoodworks.com

August 18, 201312 yr that sounds a little obsessive compulsive John. Knowing that If I'm ever near your office I'd have to rig something so that at random times the balls would fall off the rack. LOLRound Barn WoodCrafts, Plymouth WIroundbarnwoodcrafts@hotmail.com
