August 8, 201312 yr I've been thinking about adding a scroll saw to my shop. So I started researching the various models out there. I often start on Amazon for the reviews and see which way they are pointing. Only this time it seems every scroll saw they have has bad reviews. Even the ones with higher star counts appear as if the praises were company generated to offset the bad reviews.I am wanting a tool that will last. I don't want to have to make a lot of modifications to it out of the box (learned about that with my band saw). I would like to keep the price under 300 and preferably under 250. Don't think I'll get to deep into the intarsia stuff but there are several cuts I would like to be able to do that a thin blade on a bandsaw just can not handle. What are your recommendations?KevinKevin WellsChuckin' Woodwww.chuckinwood.com
August 8, 201312 yr I can certainly make a few recommendations on what not to buy. Â Stay away from machines that require pinned blades. Make sure it has variable speeds. Â Make sure the blades are easy to change. Â An attached light and a foot pedal are real pluses. Â Also, will the saw accommodate the thickness of wood you wish to cut and is the throat deep enough to accommodate the sizes you wish to scroll. Â SQHappiness is wood chips flying!
August 8, 201312 yr I'm not a scroller but I've heard that Dewalt makes a good one. Lew Kauffman-Wood Turners Forum HostTime Traveler and Purveyor of the Universe's Finest Custom Rolling Pins!
August 9, 201312 yr I second that.  I've been very happy with my DeWalt 788.  I just found a couple on my local craigslist.  You might be able to find a really good buy on your local craigslist. http://portland.craigslist.org/wsc/tls/3984686266.html  http://eugene.craigslist.org/tls/3989677993.htmlSQHappiness is wood chips flying!

August 9, 201312 yr I've been checking out saws to replace my worn out one. From what I've found so far I'm getting the DeWalt 788, on-line from Home Depot. Good price, and free shipping to your home. Offer good until the end of Sept.Harry BrinkBulldog WoodworkingMontana
August 15, 201312 yr Kevin, I began scroll sawing with a Craftsman 16 inch variable speed which takes pinned and pinless blades. I was quite happy with it for a few years but then I upgraded to a Delta 21 inch when they were on sale. I have been very happy with it also. I believe that the Dewalt is an identical machine to the Delta. As with other tools buy the best that you can afford. Type of blades are also very important. I really like Flying Dutchman blades and use them exclusively.Don RScrollsawing and carving on the Cumberland Plateauwww.oldcrowwoodcrafts.webs.comwww.oldcrowscrollwerks.weebly.com
