What wonderous things did you get done this weekend - 8/19

After a grand and wonderful weekend, what projects did you complete/worked on????  I just know that with the great weather, an upcoming holiday and school starting that many items are either well on there way or completed.  Share with us what they are............

As for me, not much woodworking got completed this past weekend.  You see, it was the last weekend my Belgium kids were is town.  Our granddaughter got moved into her dorm at Young Harris college getting ready for her freshman year.  Of course, many tears flowed.  A last whole family dinner for a while and then put Brian and his family, minus Kelsey, on a plane back to Belgium.  Probably won't see them for another couple or three years (boo hoo).

Enough from my, had about y'all?????????????

On Friday I finally was able to get back in my shop. I had not done any woodworking stuff since before Christmas when I wrapped up the tea boxes that I made for gifts. In early January I slipped on ice while on my morning walk which led to 2 shoulder surgeries and I am still in physical therapy. I also had to have nasal surgery to repair a deviated septum a week or so ago. So Friday I was able to spend the day reclaiming my shop from the clutter, dust and spiders. I got everything cleaned up and threw away a lot of stuff. Good thing it was trash pick-up day so I was able to get it all in the cans at the curb. My next step is to make a couple of table saw jigs so that I can start on a few new projects. It is so nice to be able to walk through my garage/shop again without all the clutter.

Got all the handplanes cleaned and sharpened, plus sharpened and set a big old rip saw.     Oh, and got the yard mowed, too...

Beth and I went to Decatur, Alabama on Friday night for "Third Friday" event. They had the streets lined with Antique Cars and Trucks.

ning-img-0637-10139-22.jpgning-img-0638-10139-15.jpgWhile we were there with my daughter and two of the granddaughters, we found a couple of nice antique stores and a pickers store to wonder through.

So I picked up this Stanley No.5.

ning-img-0642-10139-5.jpgAnd a Disston Saw

ning-img-0657-10139-39.jpgThe store was pretty cool, an old bank back in the '20's and '30's and he had a nice collection of iron rust.

ning-img-0639-10139-67.jpgSaturday was mostly spent with my mom. She and I had a day out for a a bit and had lunch out. She enjoyed it and we laughed a lot.

Sunday afternoon, Beth had to work so I went to the shop and remade my jig for the legs for the cedar chest and got them made and on the chest.

Saturday I met with 4 other guys from church to begin re-wiring a house as a church men's ministry project.  I spent the day in the attic.  I promised to bathe the next time.

Turned 7 bowls for The Green Country Woodworkers sale on October 8.  Also turning a lidded box made out of boxwood. Boxwood drys fast; gets punky if not dried properly, and distorts when finished with a penetrating chemical.  Post picture of finished box later.

Betty

Betty,

Sounds like a fruitful weekend. Eagerly awaiting your pictures.
