August 29, 201312 yr Four identical jewelry chests of maple with walnut inlay. Got all the maple laid out after a major goof. Thought I had plenty. Started pulling and realized that they were all 5"-6" wide and I need 8". No glued panels on these. Had to make a run to Flagstaff for more maple. Thank goodness there was plenty of curly, for the door panels, in the stash. Start cutting, planing, sizing, sanding and laying out mortises to day. Resawing the curly tomorrow. When that's all done, I'll get some pics posted.Gene'The true soldier fights not because he hates what is in front of him, but because he loves what is behind him.' G. K. August 29, 201312 yr I just hate that. And if I would have bought extra, there would have been way too much left over. Lew Kauffman-Wood Turners Forum HostTime Traveler and Purveyor of the Universe's Finest Custom Rolling Pins!
August 29, 201312 yr Author Got all the sides and tops and bottoms cut to rough length. There was a knotty piece about 4" long that I had to excise (-: and another 7" long piece of the 8" stuff I got yesterday. Whew! That was close. Now, DON'T SCREW UP, Gene. Gene'The true soldier fights not because he hates what is in front of him, but because he loves what is behind him.' G. K. Chesterton

August 31, 201312 yr When doing things like this I try to leave myself room for error.   So I make at least one extra of whatever it is I'm doing. Having an extra that makes the final cut just means that some lucky person, who didn't think I cared for them that much, will get an unexpected surprise. That alone pays interesting dividends.
