The Work of Mike Davis

Featured Replies

Mike came around our site today, and as in the case of many our members they visit, they get busy somewhere else, and they pay us a visit, and I then remember them once again!!!!! I love it when our in frequents members come by and just check in. It's like a nice surprise to see them here once again, and I'll check in on their page as I did with Mike Davis, and lo and behold, I saw the work of Mike Davis, it is cool, fashionable, tastefully done and very nice. See below a refresher on Mike Davis' work.

And thank you Mike for stopping by today, it was a pleasure talking with ya!

I really like Mike's work. Beautiful wood, clean simple lines and a finish that begs to be touched.

Thanks for the compliments. I do simple things because I was told I was not good enough to do the fancy stuff and then some people appreciate simple things so I guess it is good in a way. I don't like a lot of shiny finish. I see bowls that look like they've been dipped in epoxy, the finish is so thick and glossy it hurts my eyes to look at it. Makes me wonder why they work in wood, plastic seems to fit them better. Yeah, clean, simple and just enough finish to call it done. That's what I like to do. Glad you like it.

Mike, when I first started out woodworking and finishing, I thought everything had to look like plastic, I was always after that glassy smooth finish up until about 6 years ago when I started using just hand rubbed finishes, and mixing my own wiping varnish's. I love the in the wood look now, the only reason I use finish now, is to bring out the character and grain in wood, not to "Improve" it by giving it a glassy sheen. I love the natural look, I hardly spray anymore either unless I am doing large flat work like cabinets. I enjoy brushing or wiping on, and wiping off, and leave it be!
