September 1, 201312 yr  and a world apart on how they were selling a simple block plane.   Alook at the two planesNow, one dealer sold his tools as is.  That rusty one on the left.  The other dealer liked to put a clear-coat like junk on his.   Maybe for the bling effect?  Price was $2 extra for the bling.  Started a rehab on both planes by taking them apartBling plane was just dusty. The slider was stuffed with sawdust. Brass did need a shine. More about that iron in a bitRusty Boy even had a few spider nest under the hood. Iron needed a lot of work. Took a bit to CAREFULLY remove the knob, did not want to break anything.  Got the drill press fitted up with the wire wheels, and went to town scrubbing things down.  Hard part was getting all that clear coat off.Rusty Boy after de-rusting. BLO on the knob. There wasn't much japanning left, so a paint job will be next. As for Bling98% of the clear-coat is gone, brass is cleaned up. Had to install the slider back onto the body, to level the solelooks alittle better.  Had a thick coat of that junk on it, too.  Irons: both needed a bit of work. Bling's was skewed, instead of square.  Got that done, and flattened the back.  Clear coat was very thick on the iron as well. As for thwe rusty one? It had a "wave effect" edge going on. Got it almost straight across now.  Corners are a bit clipped, though. Ran both through the sandpaper/grinder, and stones until sharp. Waiting on paint to dry on the other bodypaint booth in the shop? Got Bling back together, and posed with the ex-rusty oneYep, a BLINGY Plane.  Might call it an Airstream?   Might get a test drive later, after the paint is done drying. Until then, Sir Thomas is saving a place for the two newest planes"Hey, who you calling a fat cat?"
