September 4, 201312 yr Do you guys ever go to workshops or take classes?I have been offering basically free workshops for a few years, recently started charging $10 to cover part of the expense. This is for regular members of NCWW, not the Wounded Warriors. Their classes are always free.We have taught sharpening, dovetailing, turning, carving, and hand plane restoration and use. Usually have 8-12 students and they work on their project about 6 hours with an hour instruction in the morning and maybe another hour after lunch. Do you guys do anything like that here? Have you taken any classes? Do know of any that you recommend? If you are in North Carolina would you be interested in our workshops?
September 4, 201312 yr Here in Mt. the adult education has classes every fall-early winter at the high school's wood shop. Mainly basic stuff with the instructor helping out.For me it's a great time to use some of the tools that I don't have.Harry BrinkBulldog WoodworkingMontana
September 4, 201312 yr The only thing here are adult education classes, at the local Vocational School. Usually just introductory stuff. I think there is a local turners club but have never had the opportunity to attend. One time I was asked to demonstrate making my rolling pins to a great bunch of folks at the Mason Dixon Wood Workers. We had a blast. Unfortunately, they are a 5 hour drive from here so I really don't get to participate in their regular events. September 4, 201312 yr Well, the wood whisperer lives in PHX but that's 4 hours away from me. The local Jr. College dropped all their wood classes. The local HS and Jr. Hi both have excellent shops and great instructors but don't offer any adult classes. So, there's no instruction offered close by. If I lived near you in NC, I'd be there!Gene'The true soldier fights not because he hates what is in front of him, but because he loves what is behind him.'
