September 6, 201312 yr While out on a walk-about, looking at yard sales and striking out.   Stopped at the Lutheran Centers Thrift Store.   Figured at worst, the roof might cave in with me in there.  Went over to the tools section, and saw a couple handsaws hanging there.  Well, there was three.  Picked out two, went up to the counter.. "How much for these two?" "$1 each, plus tax" (always tax it seems) "Ok" Spent $2. 15 on a pair of rusty old sawsShorty is a 10ppi panel saw. No etch yet. Medallion says "Warranted Superior" and might be an Atkins?? The big guy is a D-8, 6ppi rip saw, with the thumbhole.   Yep, there is an etch on it's blade. Henry Disston even signed it.  Medallion says it is a Disston, from Philly.  Cleaned the rust off of the two..and even shined the brass up. Panel saw has steel bolts, though. As for the handles?Looks to be the original finish, on crack-free handles.  nothing missing, either.  Just a might worn is all. Worth the $2.15??? Planer? I'm the 'planer', and these are what I use...

September 7, 201312 yr Wish I had taken a pix of the hand saw collection at the flea market store. The table was about 5' long and the saws were piled 4 or 5 deep the entire length. Lew Kauffman-Wood Turners Forum HostTime Traveler and Purveyor of the Universe's Finest Custom Rolling Pins!
