ok, picture time!   Got some toys, er tools outThis was just the start, by the time I was done, table top was full, and a chair as well.  Set up the "High-tech Workbench"Yep, a stepladder and a 2x10.  had a chunk of the 2x10 already cut off, using the old saw benchand set things up to do a bit of joinery.   Had to level the playing field first, and make for notches.   Angle ones, because the legs will be splayed.and a little work with a jack planethen started to cut a few legs to sizeangle of the dangle is about 12 degrees.   Got four legs cut at a bevel, and drilled some pilot holes for screwsNow, before you go to thinking I did all that saw work with a hand sawAh, nope, I'd still be a-huffing and puffing.   Saw is set at the bevel needed.    Started to put some things togetherBack end with a gusset, no less. the other end gets a notch, to help with rip cuts.  The gusset then has to be on the inside of the legs, so a fancy bit of clamp workNow, how many workbenches are there that you can clamp things standing up?  Time to plane the leg tops level with the topUsed the jack plane to get it almost smooth, and then a #3 from Wards finished it upThen I just sat down with a #6 and planed the entire saw bench top smooth.  Not too bad for a morning's work?  Might take almost as long to put away all those tools used....

Adds support when doing a rip cutYou can saw a bit further along before you'd have to slide things forward, again.   Some of these benches, you can saw right on through, since the "top" is actually two boards, with a gap between them.

Nice job Steven, ought to last you along time. Good morning task.

Afew of the smaller tools I used for this build.   Yep, even that rebate plane.   Used it to level out the angle part of the cutouts.  Same with that little 103.    Three Visegrip finger clamps to hold things in place, and had a couple "F" style clamps for when things got a little thicker than the fingers could reach.   Three drills??   Two were for driving screws, without the screw disappearing into the wood.   The corded one was for drilling pilot holes.  Used a light hammer to move the chisels around a bit, mainly to get rid of the waste in the cuts.    The big one worked like a slick, paring things down. 

The two larger planes are sitting elsewhere.   Yes, I did have a tape measure for this project.  

Now i can clamp a board on to the bench, and rip it to width.   Or,  set a board across the bench, and make a crossut.  I can use either a handsaw ( I think I might have one or two) or that all metal Craftsman circular saw. 

Not sure if I will put any finish on the bench.   This is a work bench, not a piece of fine furniture.   It WILL get a few dings and such.   Might have a "Next Project"  that I can use this bench for....one of St. Roy''s  workbench projects....
