Well Patriot Woodworkers, I hope you are not superstitious about it being Friday the 13th. It will okay to work in your shop this weekend and should be a great weekend for it. The weather is beginning to cool off or it is here. High will be in the upper 70's. So a good time to get to the shop and work on some projects.

For me I am still trying to build up inventory since I am back to doing some work in my shop. My shoulder is doing good, but it still doesn't have the strength or stamina that I had before the surgery. After a few hours of pushing boards through the saw it starts to get pretty tired. I also had Carpel Tunnel surgery on my right hand at the same time and the palm of my hand it still a bit tender when tightening clamps. But hey I am getting there and that is what counts.

So I got some more cutting boards in the first glue up and should get them into the second glue up tomorrow.

I am also doing some Pizza Peels to add to my inventory and worked out the way I wanted them to look and got them in glued last night. Will get them out of the clamps tomorrow and run through the planner to get them smooth and size then cut out the pattern.

This seems to be a good way to use up the end of board I have been cutting for cutting boards.

I was also ask this week to put my small cutting boards, bread boards and cheese boards in the gift shop at the Kennedy-Douglas Art Center. Wow does that now make me an Artist? They loved the boards so I took them some to put out. Hope they do well.

So what is on the agenda of The Patriot Woodworkers here? Are you working on a new jig, making a new project, updating the shop, preparing for fall, home improvement, HDL, restoring an old machine or tool, or just laying on the couch and watching college football all day? We here are The Patriot Woodworker love to see your projects and see them as they develop. You never know, your project might just inspire someone else. So come on and post some pictures of your projects here even it they are finished yet.

My Great, great, great grandmother (1810-1883) and I are waiting to see what you are working on some come on and post it.

Now that the DP table is done, I can start on drilling for the mortises in the tops and bottoms of the jewelry chests. 

A mortise runs all the way around the sides and back for the tenoned sides anf back panels. The top has 4 thru mortises for tenons that extend a 1/4" through and get walnut wedges to hold them tight.

Four sets of these to do. That's a lot of M&Ts for me. Sooo many opportunities to screw up.

Should I wait 'til after the 13th?????

As for me, this weekend is going to be about pens. I have several kits that have been sitting for months since I have been sick, and I think now is a good time to get at least some of them made. I have a few of the slim ones, but I also have one of the Nouveau Sceptre which can be found here http://www.pennstateind.com/store/PKDBRP.html.

I'm not going to finish mine in acrylic because I don't have a acrylic blank that would be suitable for a high grade pen, so wood it is, but it's a matter of what wood. Perhaps Mango would work . I'll think on it.

I also have 3 of the Olympian II pens (Similar to the Big Ben.), a bit too much plastic on these for my true liking but hey, if people like them and buy them, and they don't fail the user, who am I to complain?

Saw this piece on the wood pile and decided to get it at least rough turned because it looks like the wood is decaying still, So I will make a candle holder/bowl out of this and hopefully the sanding wont be an issue. After I get it turned I'll see what it looks like and decide whether to go ahead and try to finish it today. It's almost totally dry, it throws a lot of dust when drilling or cutting on it too so a mask will be worn at all times during turning/finishing

So far I have it rounded and a 1.5" hole drilled to the depth I want to finish at

I'm not positive but it looks to be Beech wood.

I'll start on pens tomorrow gotta get some done.

I like the look of your peels and boards.

for me this weekend its gluing stock for cutting boards, bread trays, scrapers, cheese boards, and cribbage boards. I will however be taking time tomorrow evening to visit friends at their campsite. and cook some garlic prawns and fettuccine alfredo.

No pictures, but finished up a "bog" chair in sycamore, rebuilt/hung shed doors and completed a list of honey-do's for my in-lawss who are in failing health/hospitalized. I was busy using my handyman skills this weekend.

I started working on some pizza peels to add to my inventory this weekend. Got them out of the clamps early Saturday morning.

Put my pattern on them and traced it out, went to the band saw and rough cut them to shape and size.

and here is one of them with the handle rounded over and the size and front beveled on both sides.

I'll post some better pictures with I finish all of them.

After getting the pizza peels out of the clamps, I cut the cutting boards into the strips to make the end grain glue up.

Made five large size boards from these.

Got them out of the clamps Saturday afternoon, but had to stop and watch the Alabama vs Texas A&M football game.

Sunday afternoon, I got them out of the clamps and they are ready to start running through the drum sander.

I'll probably glue up another set tonight to make medium and small boards before I start the sanding.

While I had all of that going on, I had picked up this Cast Iron Keen Kutter match holder a few weeks back. It was pretty rusty and dirty. So bad every time I sat it down some of the rust and dirt will fall off, So I set up my Electrolysis and put it in the solution.

I haven't made up my mind whether to leave it like it is or go ahead and put the wire brush to in and clean it all the way down now and paint it. There are either Red or Green. It looks to me like this one was green. I intent to use it to put business cards in for shows and just hang it on the wall in the shop between shows.

So that is pretty much what I got accomplished this weekend. How about the rest of you, did you get any projects done or almost done that you can post pictures and share with us.

I see Steve has a nice bench almost done.
