Saved the rest of that old plank from the saw bench build.   Went back and found a second plank, a 2x4x 6" (r so) and a 5/4 x5  style from an old door.     Have some other scraps laying around....

sooo, how about a Roy Underhill style work bench?

have four legs cut to length and width from one plank, with a 10 x10 pad leftover..

have a benchtop cut to length from a 2x10.   About 48" long.

2x4s to make leg braces need to be cut, what is left over will be on the ends.

5/4 x5 x7"  should make at least one apron, and have a second apron waiting to be sized.

Need a thinner plank for the bottom of a tool well.    Have two short pine 1x6 pieces, might stretch them into a four foot piece?

Three days off!   Gotta love this schedule!   Nice cooler weather, and DRY too.    Might just keep me out of "trouble" for a few days?      Nah......

That sounds like an interesting build, Steve. 5/4 aprons? One solid bench!

Judging from the other projects you've made, Steve, it'll be an excellent workbench.

Just a few more photos of this little projectning-sdc15829-9109-90.jpg?width=721A circular saw did most of the work, finished to cuts with that handsaw.   Planed the end, to better lay the joints out. ning-sdc15830-9109-9.jpg?width=721Two legs, and some layout work.  The piece laying across the legs will become a brace between the legs.   Ripped two legs from a 2x10, the strip laying there was leftover.   Saved it for the leg braces.  Once the lines were drawn, time to cut things upning-sdc15831-9109-31.jpg?width=721and then knock the waste out, a little clean up was nextning-sdc15832-9109-42.jpg?width=721Alittle chisel took the chunks out, and a bit of paring work.  Had to remove the fence and depth stop on the 78, then it fit the slot.  as for the aprons.   Front one is a 5/4 x3-1/2 , and the rest were 2x4s  Ends of the long pieces needed some joinery done to themning-sdc15841-9109-67.jpg?width=721This is after the legs were fitted.   A stretcher was added to the legs braces.   Lots of screws were needed, too.  Had to take a break, while the better half went to get some 2" screws.   Wallyworld was out so she went to Lowes.   Had to pay three times walyworld's price....ning-sdc15844-9109-3.jpg?width=721Once the aprons were attached, tried to get the top and the legs and the aprons to be flat.   Lots of handplane work...

Got the bench down to the Dungeon Shopning-sdc15848-9107-18.jpg?width=721now the shop is in the shape of a "U".   Tried out a jig on the benchning-sdc15851-9107-1.jpg?width=721and just had to try it outning-sdc15852-9107-77.jpg?width=721Part of building the bench was making the legs.. Ripped them out of a 2x10.    That left saw marks on the legs.    clamped a piece of wood to the saw benchning-sdc15817-9107-97.jpg?width=721and placed a leg against the "stop".   Grabbed a #6 small jointer, and made a shaing or twoning-sdc15822-9107-37.jpg?width=721and soon had Gossemer Shavings floating across my back yard.   Just wouldn't be proper to have legs with saw marks showing, now would it?
