September 20, 201312 yr Yesterday my wife was looking around in a store not too far from our office while on lunch. She ran across this level and sent me a picture and said, "Do you want it?" Should you ever ask a woodworker if he wants another tool, of course I wanted it! So after getting home, I got on the Internet and started the google process to see what I could find out about Port Austin Levels. Here is what I know so far and please add to this. They began in 1947 and have been in business since. They are a Veteran business. Levels made right here in the good ole United States. Back in 1947, three gentlemen (John Upthegrove, Frank Kinch, and Harold Finan) pooled their resources to create Port Austin Level. Since then, Port Austin Level has grown from a one-room work shop to a full-sized factory which includes an aluminum foundry. Check out Port Austin Level and Tool Mfg. Co. Here is my Port Austin Level. It has certainly been used but is good and straight and the bubbles are all good. I have no idea when this one was made. I have sent them an email and hope they will check out our site. When you get a change, give them a look. Their page says, "Made with Pride, Veteran Owned" John Moody Site Administrator John Moody Woodworkshttp://www.johnmoodywoodworks.com

What's really cool is that the company is still around, and if not for your finding that level, we may have never known about this veteran owned outfit.
