September 23, 201312 yr comment_8808 I got four of the five Pizza Peels finished this weekend. I was trying to figure out a good way to cut the bevel on both sides of the peels. I put my large raised panel bit in the router and did the bevel on the sides, the straight part. I tried to do one of them around the end and it didn't work, it would grab the end grain so I had to do a little sanding and fix it. So I took a rasp and removed most of the material on the rounded end and then took my Stanley No.18 block plane and fine tune them. Then a little sanding and the bevel was perfect. I though it was going to take a long time doing them this way, but it was really a lot faster than I imagined and the quite work with the plane was a nice change to the router noise. But just when you think you have everything working your way, I was on the last one running the bevel on the straight side when the raise panel bit grabbed and tore out the side. So as soon as I can, I will cut this part off and put another piece of maple on and try again. John MoodySite AdministratorJohn Moody Woodworkshttp://www.johnmoodywoodworks.com Report
September 23, 201312 yr comment_8817 pizza peels only need to be rounded on one side. the bottom stays flat. By the way, you might want a longer handle on them for 2 handed leverage especially for large pies.Stanley intarsia sign is on hold a couple of days till I can get to Loews for more blades for the scroll saw. September 23, 201312 yr Author comment_8815 Yea, I might add a little to the length on the next handles. I made this one in a store I got a pattern of. On the ones they had but sides were beveled. I guess this way you can use either side.I did read on a site for Pizza Peels that beveling both sides makes it easier to slide the pizza on and off. dragon1 said:pizza peels only need to be rounded on one side. the bottom stays flat. By the way, you might want a longer handle on them for 2 handed leverage especially for large pies.Stanley intarsia sign is on hold a couple of days till I can get to Loews for more blades for the scroll saw.
