Friday, September 27th, What's on Your Woodworking Agenda this Weekend

Featured Replies

End of September here on The Patriot Woodworker, is that hard to believe or not? Seems like the summer just began and now we are officially into the fall with Winter just around the corner. I hope these cooler days and nights offer you some time to get into the shop and work on the projects you like to make. If you are doing projects for Christmas, you better get started now.

For me I am still in full production mode on cutting boards. I am thankful they are going out as fast as I can turn them out. Last night I got the first sanding on five new large boards.

ning-img-1055-8668-84.jpgSorry I didn't realize I moved when I took that picture.

ning-img-1056-8668-31.jpg And the fifth large on.

I also have five medium that I got out of the clamps last night that will be ready to sand tonight and put five small ones in the clamps.

So that will be most of my weekend projects.

What about the rest of your Patriot Woodworkers, what is on your agenda, building a new jig, restoring an old piece of equipment or tool, building a new piece in the shop, home improvement, preparing for fall, or just laying around and enjoying watching your favorite football team on the big TV? You know here are The Patriot Woodworker, we like to see your projects and hear what you are working on. We love pictures, so please give us pictures as you are working on it and as it progresses to the point it is finished. We all pick up new ideas when we hear and see others doing their projects.

So come one what are you waiting for? I want to see what you are doing and what you are working on.

Post those pictures!

I will be leaving in an hour or so to head to Tempe, AZ with my daughter for the weekend. Her friend is have some real emotional struggles and my daughter needs to be there with her and it would not be good for her to drive it alone. So I will be hanging out in Tempe for a couple of days. Good thing that it is not going to be in triple digits for the temp according to the weather site.

Welllllllllllllll, John - not going to be making much sawdust this weekend.  We have a big show right here in Duluth and I hope to sell a bunch of saw dusted projects ! ! ! ! !  This is the first of four big shows we are doing for the fall season.  Hope folks open up their pocket books and find some great Pop's Shop gifts.  Of course, in this economy, one never knows.  Maybe I should start making some cutting boards since you can't keep them in stock (big grin here).  ((Makes me wish we had our smilies back))

How about the rest of  y'all???  Whatcha got going?

Finish storing some scored walnut to get some working room and hopefully finishing up the lathe duplicator. Have to make some knobs and the legs. Then the smoke test!

Finishing up one pen, and making more. The pens vary from slimline's to Sierra's to rollerball's about 20 pens in all. I see no way to get them all done with the amount of time I spend on them, but several will be done. I'll do one of each until all are done.

Here's the one i am working on now.   ning-000-0001-8675-87.jpg?width=721

Its a combination of red acrylic and baby pine cones. Yep baby pine cones, use light cuts on this type of blank and you should have no problems. They are available from Wayne Ryan on Facebook.

He has other blanks available which are all combinations of wood and acrylic, which I think is really cool because it actually uses much more of the wood scrap that otherwise would go to the dump. It takes sharp tools to turn them, so my EWT's come in real handy for this. Safe woodworking!

This is the "weekend of lunacy" here in east central Indiana.  Fairmount, Indiana is about 15 miles from my front door and Fairmount is the home town of 50's legend James Dean (as well as Garfield creator Jim Davis).  The last weekend in September is the home of two street rod shows.  The Rebel Run is in Fairmount and the Ducktail Run is in Gas City about 4 miles from Fairmount.  Needless to say there are street rods everywhere.  Between the two town there will be between 4,00 to 6,000 street rods depending on the weather.  Dorothy and I went to Fairmount today (Friday) and the rods were streaming in.  Probably about 1000 on site when we were there.  There's also a huge tool and car parts flea market.  Here's a few of the street rods we saw today.

I'm looking forward to the non-smoke Lew. You only get one set of smoke with each device. LOL

I know Fred, I miss the smileys also.

I normally do a show the first weekend of October, but with the shoulder problems this year and being behind I just couldn't commit to it. But I will be ready for next year.

I hope you sell out!

We've got Smileys,

They're just not as easy to use as the old ones.
