What did you get done this weekend?

Featured Replies

I got 1 pen done and another started.

The pen that got done is called a Gatsby for this model, some call it a Sierra but it's slightly different.

This is done in Gun Metal and features an acrylic blank with actual small pine cones within the acylic, giving it a flower look. Care must be taken when turning these as they can chip really easy but if they work out, they are some of the most beautiful pen blanks around.

Thanks for looking.

Worked on my lathe duplicator.

I've come to the realization that I am going to have to make some major modifications in order to get it to cut the way I envision it. The router cut finish is far to rough.

On the positive side, however, it is the perfect fluting device.

Saturday was a trip to the ER,  "spell" #3 while sitting at the computer,   Spent until  today in the hospital.    Not much in the way of any answers, other than most was caused by high blood pressure.

Stopped on the way home and picked up a leg vise, for the new workbench.

That's about it, a wasted weekend, and I was even sober......

That's ok I didn't get near as much done as I wanted either.

Be careful Steve, those spells can hurt. I've nearly fallen out of my chair several times just by leaning back and suddenly get super dizzy. Not sure if it has to do with lack of proper eating but it may. I go in about 10 days to see about that problem. Hoping they can provide some answers. Until then I just am more careful around my machines.

Lew, I wish I knew how to help you on that. I don't know the first thing about making a duplicator. I'd like to learn though.

I used to hate the idea of using one, but after many times wanting a way to duplicate something, I'm a bit less hard lined about that.

Thanks for sharing guys.

Charles - thanks for picking up the slack.  For me, the entire weekend was concentrated on our biggest show of the year.  80,000 attendance, folks carrying bags, quite a few carrying OUR bags.  Took Monday to rest up after 14 hour days.

Lewis, hang in there - I"m sure you will get it going

Steven, gotta watch out for those spells.  Hope all is in control now.

How about the rest of y'all????

Steve, glad to hear your spell was manageable with meds. Hope it goes well for you and you experience no more blackouts.

Charles, that's a gorgeous pen!

Fred, Sounds like a good show. 14 hr days would put me under, for sure.

All weekend, all I did was play with the grandkids in and out of the pool. Took them on a hike in one of the numerous parks in and around Tucson and spent an afternoon at "Golf and Stuff".

Found out that I'm no good at Uno and really not good at that game where you lay out 36 sets of matching cards and try to remember where each is.

Got back yesterday around 1 PM. Picked up the truck and mower. They fixed the shift indicator and reset the shaft that turns the blades on the mower. I had installed it crooked. The truck’s battery was shot, too. Had to replace it. Got a LOF job while they were at it. Total cost was $450 including $150 for the battery.
I’ll NOT be doing much more in the way of mechanic’s work. Best leave it to those who know what they are doing!

Nope. Got another 4-5 hours of driving in ever smaller squares. Too hot now. This evening and in the morning should do it.

Hi All,

I got this FBE Platter done. Took me a month due to health issues. I hope to figure out how to either do a lazy susan or a stand of some type.  Any ideas are appreciated.

Not a lot of woodworking but I did pick up a new bed for my mother over the weekend.

A Chippendale four post bed, says 1800's, I am not sure of the date.

She loved it thought and that is all that really mattered.

ning-img-1049-8597-73.jpgning-img-1063-8597-62.jpgIt has some nice character to it. I have having to use a lower bed frame with it so she can get up on it right now.

That was about it as far as shop time.

I did also pick up a couple of other items this weekend.

Here are some pictures, more about them later this week.

well John, I have a few of them locks,my dad has a lot of them and a WHOLE lot of keys an NOT one would fit lol,go figure, haven't been in shop since putting up installation and finding out I was allegic to it,broke out so bad had to see doc an get some cream,(note to self go buy coveralls w/longsleeves),so right now just thinkin of things to make, when I get backout there.

Ron, Look on the bottom of the lock and see if there are four numbers next to where the key goes. If so they are the lock codes and a locksmith can look that up and it tells him how to make the key. Now as secure as it was, they now don't put the lock codes on the bottom of the locks, it is usually stamped on the key. Those locks you can't take the key out unless the lock is locked.
