October 3, 201312 yr Mail carrier dropped off two boxes today.  A Shelton #04, and a Ohio Tool Co. #05 Thistle brand from Auburn NY. that ain't rust on the 05c, that is a coat of brown (??) paint.  right hand threads too. Shelton has brass bolts under all that crud.  Wood on both is crack free as is the bases.  A #05c?yep, now I have a groovy jack plane in the shop.  (photos looked good in the VF, not sure what happened) Things do need a good cleaning and maybe a stripping, too. Trying to find out IF that brown paint is factory, or someone's shop idea? UGLY, ain't it. About half the paint is gone, some of the rest has "crazed" too.  even the frog is brown..., yuck! Brass wheel, with right hand threads, no less. Iron has a strange looking hole, too.  Yep, made by Ohio Tool Co. Now, about that Shelton 04.  Those bolts are brass, and I'm out of Brasso.  That hole is where the lever hooks into to the iron, for both depth, and lateral. I already had a Shelton 04 base, bad news?   Different patent dates!  Existing is a # 914609, the new one is a #1914609.   The 914609 has a narrower mouth, and the handles look better. Instead of changing irons, maybe change the base for smoother work? Looks like my days off are spoken for. Planer? I'm the 'planer', and these are what I use...
