Hello all,

I am new to the group here. I have been tinkering in woodworking for about four years or so. This past year my wife asked for a custom cabinet to be built. This was the perfect request because I it lead to new cabinets in my garage. I told her in order to build a good cabinet for her a few things had to happen. I needed to clean out the garage which meant filling up her shed. I had to learn how to build cabinets so I would learn by building cabinets for the garage. Then I could clean out the shed. And finally, I could build her cabinet in the house. So, I got new cabinets in the garage, her shed is still full, and the area for the custom built in is still bare. But hey, I still have a plan, please continue to read.

This week I retired from the Army National Guard after 20 years of active service and I only bring this up for two reasons. The first reason is that I now have plenty of time on my hand so I no longer have any excuses for not completing her custom built in cabinet.  The second reason is because, I receive a custom Saber and Scabbard as a retirement gift from my fellow soldiers . When I told the wife I need to build a cabinet for it I got "the look". All observant husbands know "the look". Which is what brought me to all of you and this group.

I would like to see if anyone here might be willing to build a cabinet for my Saber and Scabbard. We can discuss design and price elsewhere.

So that is pretty much the story.

Thanks for having me,

Fred

would you like me to draw out a nice big shadowbox with lights or do you want it to stand upright in a shadowbox?

I can draw it out and let you cut the pieces and put it together.

As far as your wifes cabinet, i need dimensions, where it's going, what type of cabinet (kitchen, bathroom, bedroom, etc.) and I can draw it out for you, (cut list, etc.).

Let me know what tools you have to work with.

I'm working on a sign for john right now but will be done with it in a bit.

John,

No takers yet. You got any ideas?

Thank you,

Fred

Dragon,

Thanks. I would like something nice just for my Saber and Scabbard. I will take care of the wife's cabinet.

Ideally, I would like a display case to hang on the wall from appropriately sized french cleats. The cleats are easier to get level and a bit more flexibility about getting them anchored into the wall studs.

I honestly had not thought about lights but a simple batter LED light setup would be real cool.

Thank you,
Fred
