October 4, 201312 yr   Well, this strange looking thing came in the mail the other day,the one in the back of the picture, the one in front is a whole nother story. Anyway, got things stripped down to the bare essentials.   Found out the that rusty looking brown is what was left of the Crimsom red that The Ohio Tool Co. of Auburn NY put on their planes. As i cleaned and stripped the parts down, and got some ready for some paintFroggie all gussified up.  Plenty of tape to keep the red where it was supposed to go. Got the base as wellAll bolts were wire wheeled clean and shiny.  Face of the frog, beforeYep, so ugly, even the camera had trouble looking at it. Wire wheeled the worst off, then a belt sander to level the face a bit.  Re-install on the newly painted baseNice and clean, now.  wood handles were also stripped, and await some of that SMELLY BLO.  The rear handle (called a Tote) was cleaned as well, along with a new bolt for the toe on it.Look a little better? As for the iron, it is an oldieThe six sided affair is a way to get around Stanley patents. If you lok close enough at the edge, there is just a single bevel, what looks like another bevel is actually some tool steel.  This is a laminated iron. See what I mean?  OK, ready for the overall picture?Front viewBack porch areaand a groovy bottom.  Will try a test drive later, seems to be a decent enough jack plane.. Planer? I'm the 'planer', and these are what I use...
