Friday, Oct. 18th, What's on Your Woodworking Agenda this Weekend?

Featured Replies

Fall is definitely in the air here in Alabama this morning. A cool 48 degrees outside, a light fog and leaves are turning and starting to drop. I love the fact that we experience all four seasons here and sometimes in the same day. I don't really dislike any of the seasons, but I do enjoy the newness of Spring and the colors of Fall.

This weekend will be spent trying to catch up in the shop on a few projects that have fallen badly behind. Of course there will be cutting boards to work on, there isn't a weekend that I don't do cutting boards and that is a good thing. I am trying to lay out my own schedule right now as to the projects that will get moved to the top of the list.

Three shadow boxes, try to install the hinges on the Cedar Chest now and not drop it, Lay out the pieces to start a small round Cherry table. I can see already I have an ambitious weekend of things ahead of me. The nice thing though, I will be in the shop and it will not be too hot nor too cold and there is no place I had rather be right now.

What about all of you Patriot Woodworkers, what's on your agenda this weekend. Are you starting a new project, finishing up a project, working on Christmas (yes I said it) projects, cleaning the shop, building a new shop jig, picking up a new tool, winterizing, flea market hunting or just getting some good old couch time? We are always interested in what other Patriot Woodworkers are working on so please share with us your woodworking plans. We love to see pictures and you never know, your project might just inspire another Patriot Woodworker.

So come on post those pictures.

Preparing for yet another visit from the Family.

No projects for this weekend or next week. We have my wife's parents coming out today and will be heading home on Sunday. Also I will be going to a Men's Conference with about 15-20 guys from my church called "Act Like Men" which will be tonight and all day Saturday. I am looking forward to the conference. Next week my wife has a 5 day conference for training so we got a hotel down there for the week as opposed to her making the long drive each day on the crowded freeways. So I will drop her off in the morning and then I will go out and about seeing some friends, taking some photos and seeing a few museums, and then pick her up and spend the evenings together. It will be a good time for both of us as my wife has really been looking forward to this conference. She had done this conference before a number of years ago and it is top notch as they will be working directly with children with autism in classroom environments learning new techniques and strategies. So this is "Hands On" in a classroom environment as opposed to sitting and listening to lectures.

I love the seasons too John!

I have a ton of shop clean up to do. I'll be kind of just having fun with that today, and I'll be sharpening some tools, cleaning out dust bags and table saw cabinet, kind of a between projects clean up. No big plans this weekend for anything wood, I may start on a couple Christmas present projects though, we'll see, it's just kind of nice not having anything to do finally!!

Hopefully, I can actually go to work this weekend.  Tired of ERs and Hospital Rooms.

Need to find SOME lumber, before I do too much more in the Dungeon Shop.    Need to get a full pay check before any more rust hunting goes on.

Planer? I'm the 'planer', and these are what I use...

Wellllllllllll, John, since you asked ! ! ! !

Judy and I are ding a show at Ketner's Mill, TN (about 40 miles west of Chattanooga.  This has always been a good show for us and we are anxious to empty out some storage boxes.  About 115 vendors this year.  With a gate of some 10,000 folks, it should be a good one this year as well.

More later.

well gonna take the weekend off, just finished installin a new waterheater, but first had to build house for it,that was the fun part, bad part was opened box for waterheater,an found big dent it top,so had to wait for delivery of new one, then broke gas line and had to drive to town(20miles away),got new one got home an found out it was wrong size, drive back to town(ARRRGGG),got new one, then had to sit a figure out instructions on lightin pilot light, found out just push striker button(slaps head),then it starts to rain, but finished before downpour hit,so am takin weekend off.

Ron, ain't country livin' great? I can't tell you how many times I've found myself in that very same situation. Still, wouldn't trade for a house in town....not even next door to the hardware store!

My weekend will be dedicated to even more rabbets and mortise and tenons. I'm almost to the stage where I can do some dry fitting of the carcases and measure for shelves, backs and doors.

Yesterday, the router lift malfunctioned and it took me an hour to find the cause and another hour to fix it. Just a loose set screw, but I had to disassemble that part to find that out. So, today I can complete the rabbets.

Fred, you're a week off.  We're going to be in Crossville next weekend.  We could have gotten together.  Speaking of next weekend, I'm finishing up an order of flag cases that will be delivered to the great state of Alabama.  Thanks to John Moody, there's a client in his hometown that needs 3 cases so I kill three birds with one stone.  I'll leave Tennessee and travel to Birmingham to see my brother and then on to Florence to drop off the cases and have a short visit with the Moody family.  It's First Friday there so finally I'll get to see the happenings first hand.
