October 23, 201312 yr comment_8042 Made some tenons by running the end of a 5" wide piece across the dado blade, using the miter gauge and fence. Apparently, I originally cut the boards ever so slightly out of square. So my shoulders are un square by about 1/64", maybe less. I'd like to make a shoulder plane to true up the unsquare shoulders,  using a 3/8 chisel. Nothing fancy. I'm thinking of cutting a 3/8" deep dado across a board, wide enough to capture the chisel, leaving one side open. widen the groove at the top for a wedge. I'll cut it at the angle the chisel is sharpened.Plan on using 3/4 Maple. I've never made a plane and although this one is rudimentary, have I missed anything?Any and all cautions, advice, suggestions, ideas and comments are welcome. Thanks in advance. Gene 'The true soldier fights not because he hates what is in front of him, but because he loves what is behind him.' October 24, 201312 yr comment_8051 I have only made a couple of planes Gene but never a shoulder plane. It sounds like a fun project. I'm not sure about the angle, I'll do some googling and see what I can find. October 24, 201312 yr Author comment_8049 I'm not sure about the angle either, John. I sharpen my chisels ar 25 deg. I figure that I want that bevel to lay flat, or to be level with the base of the plane. I did some searching but found nothing definitive. Lew. That's a fine looking plane, there. Beyond my abilities, I fear. What issue of shopnotes? Gene'The true soldier fights not because he hates what is in front of him, but because he loves what is behind him.' G. K. Chesterton Report

October 24, 201312 yr Author comment_8045 Thanks for all your help, guys. Thought it would be a quick and simple build. Not so.Just ordered a Stanley Sweetheart user from Amazon. It'll be here Friday. It would take me way longer to build one. I like to build tools and jigs but only when the need isn't so pressing.Once again, thanks for all your help.Gene'The true soldier fights not because he hates what is in front of him, but because he loves what is behind him.' October 24, 201312 yr comment_8044 It works pretty good, John, although it is not the most comfortable design when it's in your hand.John Morris said: Lew, that is absolutely awesome!!!!!!
