Any Suggestions for a Veterans Day Event?

Featured Replies

Our local woodworking club holds a meeting every Saturday 08:00. Each year on Veterans day weekend we recognize the military veterans in our club. I'm looking for ideas to help make this day more special. We have contacted local recruiters but have not received a response yet.

Any ideas?

Working on it Rob!!!! Right off the bat I am thinking about Turn a Pen for our Troops?

Rob - which group are you in?  Might be able to help.  Since I'm not a turner, how about a coin display.  Or a scrolled "Thank you for your service"?  Just thinkin'.

One of your old groups Fred!  Gwinnett WoodWorkers Association GWA. We have a couple projects we are going to do this spring. Flag cases and burial boxes for homeless vets (if that works out). We have heard some homeless vets are cremated and placed in cardboard boxes. There is a lack of information there. If it's true we plan on helping them. For the Nov 9th.       Veterans Day Meeting we were thinking of having someone come speak to the group.

We do make and give a mug, pen, and plaque to the sons or daughters of our members that are in the military but that is ongoing.

Rob, walk into your local VFW and ask if anyone would be willing to speak. I guarantee you'll get a few volunteers who love to impart on their experiences of their time in service.

I'll give the VFW a try. Sounds like a good starting place!

Thank all of you for your suggestions.
