October 30, 201312 yr More of a turning review this week. Over the years, I have carried more than my share of lathe shavings up the steps from the wood shop and through the living room. Seems like no matter what I wore, the chips and shavings clung to me like I was a dirt magnet. Years ago, my sister made me a shop apron- which now stands by itself from all of the glue wiped on it- but it didn't do much to catch most of the shavings.  I finally broke down and purchased a turners "smock" I'm about average height and probably more than a few pounds over the government's recommended weight for that height. I purchased a "large" size and it fits me very well. Although the collar, when snapped closed could be a little more snug- for those high flying chips. I think that can be solved by adding a strategically placed velcro dot closer. Other features include a small arm pocket for pencils or rule and a larger inside pocket that is away from flying chips. Chips barely stick to the material and those that do are easily brushed off.  These smocks are available from Woodcraft at this link- http://www.woodcraft.com/category/2081298/bsx-woodturning-jackets.aspx Now back to sanding those rolling pins! October 31, 201312 yr Lew, Good idea! Â I'm finally trying my hand at some tiny little boxes with fitted lids made on the lathe. Â Even these tiny little boxes make lots of shavings which I end up wearing. Â Â This is a good holiday gift idea. SQ Happiness is wood chips flying!
