October 31, 201312 yr I am completely proud and excited for our oldest daughter. Towards the beginning of the school year she decided to fire up a school club at her high school. She is starting the first of its kind club in our area that is going to help our local disabled veterans and older vets in senior homes through fundraising and local direct contact. She put the paper work in and it took awhile for the district to approve of her club and today the word came down that she has the green light. She had some nice support from her school's ROTC and a few of the teachers, a couple who are Marine veterans. They were surprised, and completely happy that finally a student was stepping up to support our vets locally. My daughter will be heading up her club this year, and over the next two years through her senior year. Their first meeting is next week, just in time for Veterans Day!!! My buttons are popping folks. She worked so hard to get this going. The school mascot is a Tiger, and she is calling her club "The Patriot Tigers" Their first effort will be in conjunction with an ROTC event for Veterans Day. Then she and her new club are going to make contact with our local senior homes and they are going to visit the older veterans and just be friends with them, hang out with them, read books, listen to stories, and take walks. Throughout the year she will be leading the efforts to fund raise with bake sales, car washes, etc. Way to go baby girl!!!! We are so proud of you!! Ok yall, standing down now, thanks for listening!
