Curly Maple Shaker Wall Shelf Part 1

Featured Replies

A couple months ago I built a shaker wall shelf that I have built many times for friends and families, but this one was special, it was donated to our fundraiser we worked in conjunction with Lagua Tools on, for the Collaborative Courts Foundation, click on proceeding link to see what we did.

I have played with the design and proportions by free handing the outline of the sides and all were satisfactory, but the one I did for the fundraiser, turned out very well, so well I decided to template the design finally.

I do not have images of the shelf we sold at auction to benefit our troops, but I am proud to say that it was auctioned off to Catherine and Torben Helshoj of Laguna Tools for a nice healthy 200 dollars!!!! Way to go auctioneer!!

I just cut another one out yesterday using my new template. Below are the parts cut out, and today I'll get to sand and assemble the piece, is is very simple, anyone can build it, but it is so stylish. The Shaker style is a favorite of our own site admin John Moody, and for good reason, John loves the simple lines of shaker, and this lil shelf is no different. It is very popular amongst our friends, and apparently it has become popular in an auction venue as well!

Here a couple images of the start of my curly maple shelf, this one will be hung in our home. The sides are shown below.

And below are the sides on end with the shelves nearby, and the pine template, I made from the original.

As in the last one I built for the auction, it will be sculpted and dished out on the side faces, and the shelves will be scooped out along the edges, they will be dadoed in and pegged on the sides with ebony. This is really fun to make, very pleasing to the eye, a half day project, well a two day project with kids and family! But you get my point, it's just fun. I'll try to get it wrapped up today and some more pics up here. Thanks for looking folks!

Will be looking forward to the finished project.
