Friday, November 22nd, What's on your Patriot Woodworking Agenda?

Featured Replies

Well here we are a week away from Thanksgiving and the holiday season will officially begin. Oh I know in the stores it has already begun and they seem to decide to skip over Thanksgiving. I remember when they would put out the Pilgrim and Turkey decorations and now they go from Halloween to Christmas over night. The only thing that seems to be discussed for Thanksgiving is what time the stores are going to open for Black Friday which is about to go away cause they are all opening on Thursday night now. Enough of that soapbox, lets take woodworking.

I will be doing my best to stay busy in the shop this weekend. I am way too far behind and orders are stacking up. What a blessing but with it comes the stress of getting it all done and making everyone happy. I hope to finish a batch of cutting boards and start another batch. I would also like to finish up the round Cherry table and start on a toy chest out of poplar. If I can get that this weekend, I will be doing good. That is not all that is there, but I am going to try to be realistic on what I can accomplish.

Pictures of the table and toy chest will be following.

I also have one of my Stanley No.5 planes restore. I lost the tote for it somewhere in the shop and still have not found it. So the best way to find it is to purchase another one. It came in last night so I will get it back together and have some pictures this weekend.

I hope as the holidays are coming you are getting busy in the shop and making items for sale if you do that and making gifts for family. You know those things you make and give are lasting memories of you, so don't hesitate to give a part of you this Christmas in a handmade item.

So come on and tell us what you have on your Patriot Woodworker agenda. Will you be starting a new project, finishing up and project, building jigs, rearranging the shop, adding tools, HDL or getting some rest before you get stuffed with Turkey and Dressing next week? You know we here at The Patriot Woodworker, we are always interested in what you are doing. So come on and share those pictures of your projects and inspire another woodworker.

The Mrs. went to a party last night and sold out all of the ornaments and most of the larger stuff too. So for me it will be long hours with my scroll saw building up inventory for an up coming show on the 7th. Other then that, my daughters birthday is today and we have a surprise party to go to for her, tomorrow evening.

Waiting for some blades to arrive to make a few "Bow Bread Knives", too.

I got 4 of my 9 cutting boards sold this week at my wife's school and the others will go after Thanksgiving. Too bad the check that I got is post dated until the end of November. She is friend so no worries. I got started on 5 children's knock down rocking chairs. 1 will be going to my niece in Phoenix, AZ as she gave birth this week to her first child. A little boy named Grady Allen Matheny. I can't lay claim to the middle name as Grady's father and grandfather have the same middle name as well. Oh well, the little bugger gets a rocking chair anyway. 2 more of the chairs will be going to a friend who has 2 grandkids on the way that will be born after the first of the year. The other 2 I hope to sell at my wife's school. I got the pieces all rough cut and got 2/3's of them routed to final size using the templates and a flush trim bit. Then I got a call from my daughter and she was in a minor fender bender. We had a lot of rain yesterday and she slid into the back of a car. She was fine and the damage to her car (1999 Buick LeSabre) was cosmetic as it crumpled the hood a bit, broke the passenger side headlight and the grill. The other car got a little damage on the bumper, so no big deal. The funny thing and the best thing is that the person she rear ended was a co-worker of hers from the school she works at. So she was fine and cool with everything. So after that I closed up shop for the rest of the day and will get back at it today. Next week I will be making up another big batch of cutting boards for Christmas sales. My wife will be off work all next week so we will see how that will play into the mix. I look forward to some quality time with my wife.

Since we have 3" of snow still on the ground and the shop is still around 20*, didn't get too much done.

After cutting 21 small Christmas Stockings and finding out my list has grown some more, I just came in after cutting 6 more. Will let them (and me) warm up over night and work on them this weekend. Also have a log cabin mailbox I'm making for SIL. They saw a few over at Bass Pro Shop and asked my wife if I could do that. I said yes (silly me!) so that's a work in progress.  It's kept my mind going figuring out how I was going to do it so that's a good thing.

Will get some pics up later this weekend.

Tomorrow is a "big deal day" for us.  We'll pick all 5 grandkids up and head to Toys R Us and we'll spend about an hour or so letting them write their Christmas lists.  After that we'll head to Steak N Shake for lunch.  This is a tradition we started about 7 years ago and the grandkids really look forward to it.  When I get home I hope to finish sand this poplar kitchen pantry that I'm building for my daughter in  law.  She gets to paint it.
