My wife, being a teacher, likes old toys and I, being a woodworker, like tools. So today while I was out walking through an antique store, I came across this old wooden tractor that I knew my wife would love. So I started looking closer and it is a "take apart" tractor. These were made from the 1950's up into the early 1970's and this one is most likely from the 1960's-1970's. The tractor originally came with a small metal wrench to take off the rear wheels that stows behind the driver, but it was missing. It also came with a screwdriver which is the driver when you pull him out. It is used to take off the front wheels and the engine. The steering also works! My wife loves the toy and is trying to figure out where she wants put it. I told her as long as it is not on my desk or in my garage it is fine.

These are cell phone pics so they are not great, but they work out ok.

Allen completely awesome find. I actually remember those myself. Playskool had a whole series of the break down toys, my sisters had a couple and I got em as hand me downs when I was kid.

That one is in spectacular shape, almost new looking. That's a great collectors piece. Where'd ya go shopping?

I was going to have lunch with an old friend down in Garden Grove at noon so I had some time to kill and went to the Circle in Orange. They have a number of antique and consignment stores down there as well as an Army-Navy store that opened there in the 1950's that I used to go to with my Dad when I was a kid. Tami and I go down there on a regular basis and walk around the stores and sometimes stop in at the Watson's Drug Store that also has a diner and sells ice cream sundaes or go grab a Starbucks. It is also an "Historic District" and have some amazing Craftsman and Arts & Crafts homes there if you drive around the streets surrounding the Circle. One of the things that Tami has wanted for years is one of those old children's pedal fire engines. I keep my eye out for one and see them now and then but they are way too much money. So we pick up some smaller things here and there which makes her happy. You know my motto "Happy wife, happy life".

I know exactly where you were at Allen, Tonya and I shopped a pretty big antique store there one time, large floor space. We found a cool old Coca Cola Thermometer there.

Yea hanging out at Antique stores! You start bringing those old things home and it starts catching. When you know the history of it and how it works and you get the original box, Better watch out next you will be going to auctions and then free styling for old stuff.

I picked up this metal 1958 "Alabama Crimson Red" pickup truck.

Hey, John.

Got one just like that one. Had the real thing in the late 80's. Totally restored, Oak racks trimmed in red, and a 300 six that I bored to accept 350 pistons. Left the original rear end installed and dropped in a stock Ford 4 speed. 

18 months after it was complete a woman blew a stop sign and T boned me. Total loss. So I bought the toy as a remembrance.

Oh wow Gene, I hate to hear that it was lost. Man that would be a cool truck. My great uncle had one and we went to their house almost every weekend. I loved getting in that old truck and riding out across the field with him.
