December 11, 201312 yr Spent the weekend + building and using a jig to cut 64 ea. 1/8th wide X 1/2 long X 1/2 deep mortises in the edges of 5/8 X 3/4 X13" sticks. Two per stick. Had to make 2 jigs. Didn't think it through on the first try. Fairly typical for me.First use of the Colt with it's plunge base and fancy edge guide. Works a treat, by gum! Now it's on to make 64 tenons on the ends of some 1"X 3/8" sticks of various lengths. These will make frames for fabric that will go in the jewelry chests that WERE to be Christmas gifts. December 11, 201312 yr I have a bunch of cutting boards and trivets to get wrapped up so that my wife can take them to her work to sell. (Note: I have no problem pimping out my wife to sell my wares as the money received is her Christmas money which makes her happy. Happy wife, happy life.) So I have 8 large cutting boards, 10 small cutting board and 20 trivets to sand. The good thing with the cutting boards is that I was able to take them to a friend's cabinet shop nad have his guy run them through their big 50" dual belt sander to level them out and sand them to 120 grit. What took 20 minutes from the time I took the key out of the ignition of my truck when I got there to when I put the key in to start the truck up to leave was 20 minutes. Doing at home using my Jet drum sander would have taken me most of the day. I have no shame when it comes to sanding. Last night I got all the edges routed and the edges sanded over with with 80 grit on the ROS before calling it a night. Today I will get the rest of the sanding done so I can start the oil finish on Thursday so they can leave the shop on Friday morning. Everything leveled, routed and ready to sand. The garage was in the 40's so I had to bundle up and put my little plug in heater next to my workbench to cut the chill even though I was wearing 3 layers of shirts. December 11, 201312 yr As far as getting much shop work done, "we" don't have too much spare time. 7 more Santa gigs for me and my wife. They're a lot of fun but we're both worn out when they're over. Had to drive over the hill about 40 miles to a pizza place last night on the snow and ice! Not too fun of a drive but that's what you do when you live in Mt. It's all worth it though when you see the little kids eyes light up! That's some get up that you have on Allen, looks like me except I'll have to add a jacket, gloves and my heavy bibs when I go out there. The cold has passed and it's now 30* outside but the shop is still 20*. I guess I should open the door and let some of the hot air in. Harry BrinkBulldog WoodworkingMontana
