December 19, 201312 yr Author So a buddy of mine (fellow retired Army Officer) makes knives and is always hitting me up for my "scraps" to use for knife handles. So I decided to give it a try myself with a blank from our friends at Woodcraft. Came out pretty good for my.....3rd knife to date. I think I would rather carve, but these sure do look pretty and I'm sure one of my relative will appreciate it eventually.Handle is from a Cherry burl my Dad found on their property. It was infested with the largest black ants I've ever seen in my life. But the patterns and colors in the wood was phenomenal. Too bad the ants ended up eating so much of it before I got ahold of it!
December 19, 201312 yr That is beautiful burl Jerry! Nice work, and I really like the carving in the back ground too! Hooorah! The blade is that a Woodcraft kit blade too? John MorrisThe Patriot Woodworker
December 19, 201312 yr Author John, yes it is. They run great sales on their blades occasionally. I've done 3 to date and have a little stash of them for when I really just don't feel like carving.
December 19, 201312 yr They are nice looking Jerry, I love that matt black distressed look of the blade, great looking knife you go there, it looks deadly sharp too! John MorrisThe Patriot Woodworker
