December 22, 201312 yr Well I have been missing seeing my buddy Steve's rust hunting post so Saturday night we took off to the auction and got in a little rust looking. I got these two boxes of rusty tools for 6.00 each. Some pretty rusty stuff and I haven't been through all of it yet to see if there were any jewels buried deep in the box. However, one of the boxes did have this little 9 1/2 plane in the box. Pretty dirty and some surface rust, but no bad chips or cracks in the cast iron. Took the iron out and put it up to the wire brush to see if there were any logos on the top. Oh Yeah! L. Bailey PATENT Aug 6, 87 and Aug 31, 56. Yep, that is 1867 not 1967. This is a pre Stanley 9 1/2 before the buy out, merger or what ever it was with Stanley. This was when Leonard Bailey was patenting his own planes. I just love it when you find one of these little jewels in a box of other rusty items. The knob on the front is brass and will clean up nicely. After a good cleaning I will see what the condition of the black is. Then they had this little jewel sitting on the table and it went by itself. Cost me 7.00 and not shipping. This is a little Millers Falls No.55 So I gave the cutter a little wire brush to see if the logo was there and yes sir re there it was. This one will get a good TLC cleanup also and then we will see where we are. Millers Falls stopped making this little plane in 1960. It was produced from 1938 to 1960. This is a later model, but I am thinking late '40s to early '50s. The last item I picked up was the two man saw. Complete with the Atkins sticker on the handle. So that was the evening out rust hunting. Now I got to see if I got Steve back out on the trail and see what he has run upon. Any of you found a jewel in the rough here lately? December 23, 201312 yr To go rust hunting means two things around hereMoney to buy with and a wee bit of gas for the fliverStores to shop in that DON'T know what is IN them boxes. Shop up in Rushyl-tucky, OH    Never can find the place OPEN.   One shop in Anna, Oh:  IF it is in the barn, way cheaper that on the store's main floor. A Stanley #80 was $5 back a year ago there... Spending a lot of time getting some of these 22 handplanes tuned up.   Even working on the last project meant a day or two re-hab for them. Still on the hunt for a bit of lumber (Free works for me) to make a few little things with.  Spring time starts the Hunting Season ( for all things rusty) around these here parts.  Can't wait for spring!Planer? I'm the 'planer', and these are what I use...
December 23, 201312 yr Top two boxes:  lots of wrenches, couple eggbeaters( might be M-F ones??) a brace and a few bits.  Them two shiny "tubes" might be flashlights? Excelisior (sp) base on a 9 1/2 block..  M-F block looks like a copy of Stanley's 103? Good luck on finding bulbs for the flashlights.  The two block planes look like they will be good users.  "Whip" saw looks too much like work to me. had a chance at a few, turned them down.  Planer? I'm the 'planer', and these are what I use...

December 25, 201312 yr Author John it was pretty good. It will go up on the wall in the shop for now. Although I may take it and put it in my office at work.
