December 27, 201312 yr Well here we are with another year ending. Is it just me or does it seem like we just began this year! Wow time has really flown by. I certainly hope this past year has been a good year for you and for your woodworking. Hoping you have found inspiration here on the site to try some things you haven't before and to experiment with new skills. Looking at many of the projects that are posting can give you many ideas about things you could do, I know they have given me inspiration. Seeing the tools that have been refurbished and brought back to life caused me to look at the old rusty tools with a different eye. The expert way they are restored sets a new bar to which you try to achieve. So with that, I thank each and everyone of you that have posted your projects here and shared your knowledge with the rest of us. Please continue to do so in this coming year as we will began to learn new things. I still have a few projects to finish up in my shop and some will carry over till next year. But here in one I finished last night. This is a Cherry box 14" x 12" I made for a friend of mine who is giving his son a new hand gun. He wanted a box to put it in. He is going to cut the foam to fit the inside to just fit the gun and what ever else he decides to place in the box. I just made the box. It may be a little hard to tell, but I did resaw the board for the lid and it is book matched. The inside is a 1/4" piece of maple plywood. The box is finished with four coats of General Finishes Enduro Var, sanded after the second coat and then sanded lightly with 400 grit between coats. So he will get the insides in they present the weapon to his son. So what about you, any projects you finished at the last minute or things you are already getting started? We here at TPW love to see your projects and see what you are working on. Please post them here in the forum and tell us about them. I will be looking to see you projects posted so lets get some conversations going. What you still haven't posted anything yet? December 27, 201312 yr That is one beautiful box John, I love it, and yes I could tell immediately it was book matched! That is some fine work indeed, I am posting that colonial wall box as we speak in another post, but is would count as a weekend project that was wrapped up! Here is a sneak preview, it was a fun project and the recipient loved it. John MorrisThe Patriot Woodworker

December 30, 201312 yr The sliding inside measure thingie.Got all the keyway stock (1/8th-3/4" in 1/16th increments) cut to a more usable length, and in the package will also be a 123 block and a hand forged (not by me) marking knife. These are lay out and direct measuring tools that I use with every project. Though I use the Woodcraft tape frequently, the direct measuring tools are my go to's, especially for repetitive fence to blade and cutter height set ups. Gene'The true soldier fights not because he hates what is in front of him, but because he loves what is behind him.'
