December 28, 201312 yr A Kobalt #4 handplane. It will take a bit of work to fettle up to even my standards ( YES,I do have some..) like the iron itself. Got the plane apart, tightened down the bolts for the handles, all three of them. Checked the fit of the chipbreaker.....yep, a wee bit off. lever caphad a ledge of some sort, where it met the chipbreaker.  Sanded that smooth to fit better. looks a might better.  iron needed to be flattened on it's back, and the edge honed down.   Factory grind marks just had to go. Frog's face got a little tune up.Just a little rough. Better now?  Frog does have a Frog Adjust Bolt.  When I finish getting this $30 plane all fettled up. be back with a few more photos.  Plane seems to be a "Made in China " clone of a Record #4.  More of a Bailey style of plane.  Big and heavy.   The sole seems to be quite flat.  Might be a decent plane.  Btw: having a duece of a time getting these photos to load here.   Planer? I'm the 'planer', and these are what I use...
December 28, 201312 yr Author Not sure what the problem is with photos today, but we'll try again.front to rear, Kobalt #4, Wood River #4 V3, and part of a Stanley #31 Jointer plane. Frog Adjuster Bolt.  Large depth adjust wheel.  Tote has two bolts to hold it downcutting system parts.  Lever cap had a ledge of sorts on the end.   Sanded the rough part smooth. Santa also brought a nice silver case, full of thingsNot too bad a haul, and didn't even have to go outside on a rust hunt.... Planer? I'm the 'planer', and these are what I use...
