December 31, 201312 yr Hi all,Finished this natural edge bowl on the 28th. It is 5 inches wide by 3 inches tall. I do have a question on it. Can you put a finish on a Camphor Bowl and still have the smell come through??Love the forum and feedback information!!I cant get the pictures to work even though I did the attach files...I'm a newbie. January 1, 201412 yr As for the finish, I think any film finish would probably seal in the aroma. Perhap an oil or wax finish but that may not provide the look you are going for. Lew Kauffman-Wood Turners Forum HostTime Traveler and Purveyor of the Universe's Finest Custom Rolling Pins!
January 2, 201412 yr Jari Kilpi from down under does alot of camphor bowls, lets get him over here and see if he can shed some light on the aroma, I take it you want the aroma to remain? John MorrisThe Patriot Woodworker
January 3, 201412 yr Greetings AllI use oil on my pieces and you can smell the Camphor Laurel for very long time. Over the period of the time, smell does go away. Wax does kill the smell faster. Little trick I use sometimes is to rub piece with new shavings or even better, leave the piece in the shavings for short time, wipe clean and you got nice smell again.Have Nice Day.Keep on turning, if not today, do it tomorrow.

January 3, 201412 yr Greetings AllYou will need to put some kind of finish into it, otherwise it will crack big time. This is oil I use and shop where I buy it from.CWS Store Kunos Oil With this oil you only need 4 to 5 layersAnd for not so good looking pieces I just use Danish Oil. With this oil, 8 to 9 layers to give that nice natural look to it.  Keep on turning, if not today, do it tomorrow.
