Friday, Jan. 10th, What's on Your Patriot Woodworking Agenda this weekend?

Featured Replies

The weather patterns have been all over the map in the southeast as I am sure many of you have also experienced. We had single digit temperatures here over the weekend and beginning of the week and it will be 60* here today. If that don't mess your system up nothing will.

With the temps all over the place it can make it difficult do get much work done in your shop. As for me it has not been so much the temperature, but the rehab to my knee. It is coming along very well and when I was there yesterday I was able to bend it 128* and I should have only been at 120* after two weeks. I have been working hard to get it back where I can get going again. I am hoping next week if all it good, I can take it slow and get in a little shop time. The surgeon that did my surgery worked under Dr. Andrews that does all the sports people when they have an injury. Of course I am not in my 20's and in the shape they are but I think he does a good job getting you back going on a good schedule.

So enough about me, what do you Patriot Woodworkers have going on in your shop or lives you would like to share with us. Are you building up inventory for the upcoming woodworking show season, rearranging the shop, installing new equipment, building a family project, new jigs, digging or blowing snow, or just taking it easy in the cold months and sitting by the roaring fire? We here at TPW love to hear about the things you are working on and the projects you have. We are a family here and love to here about what is happening in your family. So come on and share with us what your agenda for the weekend is.

This is a great site and lots of members willing to share and help with your project or you might be able to offer a tip or suggestion to someone.

So come on and get busy posting, here we are the good guys and all wear white hats!

Got some stuff to get done on the house this week as things have been neglected due to my shoulder injury and 2 surgeries in 2013. Spent a few hours yesterday doing some tree trimming and weed whacking and took 2 full pick-up truck loads to the dump. We have our adopted son staying with us (he and my son met in Jr. High and he pretty much lived at our house and was in our son's wedding) as he came down from Northern Calif. for a few weeks and will be heeding back north next week. It was sure nice to have him around to help with the heavy lifting. My shoulder felt real good during the process and it was nice to be productive. I have some sanding and re-painting to do this coming week on a rocking chairs as the paint went wonky on a couple of pieces and bubbled up for some reason. Next weekend my wife and I will be hanging out in Ls Vegas going to a wedding and having some R&R. We don't drink or gamble but we love to talk around and see the sights and laugh at the people. So not much wood related going on right now, but I do have a few things in the mix that I want to get made and Iam working on getting the hardware lined up.

Got some non weather related electrical and plumbing problems. If I get it all sorted out today, I can resume the never ending jewelry boxes project. I wish I were OCD instead of  ADD.

Hey, Happy 2014 John!!!! You are starting it off in standard form according to the "Luck of Moody"!

I wish we could get in the shop this weekend. I'll be working on a major project all weekend long for The Patriot Woodworker, announcement coming out soon!

And in between that, we have two school science projects to help with for two of our three kids, our oldest child has hers done, and we have a horseback riding lesson to go to with my youngest daughter, an orchestra performance to attend for my oldest girl tonight, and tomorrow our oldest daughter and us will be at a Chamber Music Festival all day long at Redlands University CA. She has a quartet she is involved in and every year this university hosts a Chamber Music Festival, our daughter and her quartet are playing, we are super excited for tomorrow!

Sunday, hmmm, after all that, I think it's going to be called a day of rest, errr, should I say a day of resting while we work on our super duper TPW project (announcement in the works)!

So, I guess you could say I am woodworking this weekend in a sense, I get to view all the beautiful stringed instruments made from figured wood tomorrow, and I get to watch my daughter ride around a wooden corral-ed enclosure, and I get to work on a wonderful woodworking community website!!!! So ya, I am woodworking!! How'd yall like that for a rationalizing!

One project is done.    Fried egg and baloney sammiches on grilled tortillas

A Sargent #414c is now sharpened back up and doing a wee bit of work

A Ohio Tool Co. #05c is next on the sharpening station.

Now actually have a station for such work.   Went out and BOUGHT a 12 x12 tile, a flat as I can get it one.    Glued down some wet& dry papers.    Even the oil stone will sit nice and stable on it.    Cost more for the dang spray glue than the tile.

Got the Caravan to start finally, after missing three days.    Even had to call in at work two days.     When things get this bleeding cold ( -41 with the wind)  not much gets done.

Got ONE board milled towards a toolchest.    Still looking around for some more timber, cheap that is.    Had to go out a buy this stuff, chest would be at least $200 in wood alone.    Not in my budget.    Will have to go a-scrounging, again..

Planer? I'm the 'planer', and these are what I use...

Moody - know all about the "not being 20".  My mind sure wants to heal the body quicker than what it wants.  Hang in there buddy, it will come.

As for me, the only saw dusting I'm going to get done (and in the near future) is working on patterns.

Hey Bandit,

A little water on the tile and the wet/dry paper will adhere well enough for a few hours of use. Don't have to soak and scrape when the paper needs changing.

Well,

Between temps that were below 0 for the past week, and my main PC going down with a bad video card, I guess I'll be trying to build up my firewood supply again. This 20" monitor is a pain, I'm used to the 32". I can really tell I need new glasses. LOL

Today is the first day in almost two weeks that we made it above freezing.
