February 13, 201412 yr Picked this up a few years ago. No identifying marks. The remaining blade is a Craftsman. I'd like to restore it. Maybe even use it, but not being a galoot, I don't really know what task its for. Two blades???? And, it's missing a fence. Any thoughts about where one could find a fence for it? Thanks in advance for your insights. February 13, 201412 yr A sargent.Used one blade.  Middle area was used to cut rebates with.    My version ( that I'm wearing out) is a Stanley-made-for -WARDS #79The area in front is when you are using it as a bullnose plane.   Need the depth stop, and a fence. Planer? I'm the 'planer', and these are what I use...
February 13, 201412 yr GeneLooks the same as my stanley #78. The center is for rebates and the front works as a bull nose plane. Also seems parts are missing, the is a depth stop, a guide and bolt to adjust it. I'll try and get some pictures of it tonight for you with the parts. Also you can download the manual for the stanley 78 and I dig up that link or just post the panual here for you. It's a nice plane when tuned up properly and blade is sharpend. I get a lot of use from mine. Hope this helps, I'll work on the pics and manual tonight for you. Stanely planes were marked though with the name and model number.Wayne MahlerGod bless and protect our troops that serve so we can be free.
February 14, 201412 yr Author Thanks Wayne. I'm betting with Steve that mine is a Sargent. Probably made and sold by Craftsman. In doing a little research, I agree that is almost identical to the Stanley 78. I'd sure like to find either a Stanley of Sargent fence and depth stop. Nothing on e-bay and the two old tool sites I went to didn't have either brand for sale.Gene'The true soldier fights not because he hates what is in front of him, but because he loves what is behind him.' February 15, 201412 yr GeneGot all tied up with a rush order in the shop. I'll have the pics asap. When I got mine it was missing the mounting rod for the fence. I purchased a 6" long, 1/4" by 28 TPI hardend bolt, cut the head off, smoothed the saft and it work perfect. I'm shooting for this week end to have the pics up. In the wait, here is the manual for the stanely #78Wayne MahlerGod bless and protect our troops that serve so we can be free.
February 17, 201412 yr Gene you can go to The Stanley site, I think it will redirect you, but you can purchase a new fence and stop for the 78. I have two of them, one a 1910 model and one a later version still in the original box. Both were missing the fence when I got them. I am thinking it was about 16.00 for the fence. I may be wrong, don't have the paper work in front of me. February 18, 201412 yr Author Sure thing, John....if I can remember! We're heading out to Tucson tomorrow for the big rodeo. Be gone 5 days. It'll probably be delivered while we're gone.Gene'The true soldier fights not because he hates what is in front of him, but because he loves what is behind him.' G. K. Chesterton
