February 24, 201412 yr Some time ago,. I designed and made two sets of these. One for our oldest Son and one for our Grandson. The story (later) about how the Grandson's set came into being is kinda interesting. The Chess Men were made from Hard white Maple and Black Walnut. Each piece was designed by me and turned on my 6" metal lathe using special forming tools held in my square turret on the lathe, using eye/hand coordination.. Images later. The case is a variation of Rockler's Chess board that incorporated some nice improvements. The methods used to turn each piece; how they were finished and how the Chess board was made should be pretty interesting to those who may want to make a set. In the next few days, I will start posting a lot of images showing how the project progressed. I estimate many posts will be required to provide the full set of information. So, bear with me..
