February 26, 201412 yr I'll be taking somewhat of a break from posting actual turning projects for a couple of weeks. I've started the neighbor girls' bunk beds and if you've ever seen my little basement shop you'll understand. As it is, you need a lesson in choreography just get from one tool to another. With all of the wood, in the shop, I can't even get to the lathe- This was when everything was first brought into the shop. The plywood was broken down outside and carried through the living room down to the shop. The oak and poplar was brought in through a basement window. The area where the oak and poplar is setting is the largest open area in the shop and where the bed will get "assembled" after all the pieces are finished. Everything has to be designed to be removed up the steps and out through the living room. We are not going to have a repeat of the "Great China Cupboard Fiasco of '98". Anyway, right now all of the plywood is leaning against the lathe. I needed to move it from the saw (in the above picture) so I could size the oak material. On a turning note, as I was sizing some of the stock, I remembered why I built my old lathe tool holder in the narrow shape- the one I replaced with the "Lazy Susan" model. The old one gave me enough distance between the table saw blade and the lathe tool holder to trim an 72" long piece of stock. Fortunately, the 4 screws holding the Tool Carousel are easy to remove! For the time being, then, I'll post links to newsletters, videos and interesting turning stuff here on Wednesdays. February 27, 201412 yr Lew, that is more open space than I have at anytime in my shop. I am not sure where all this stuff keeps coming from that is sitting around everywhere(well actually I do). Looks like it have it all lined up. I am looking forward to seeing those beds come together.
