March 13, 201412 yr drive, that is.   Got a lot done today on Herr Roseboom's plow plane.  Sooooo, put the parts back together for awhile, until I can do the re-finishing.  Got a decent piece od Pine scrap, and clamped into the vise.Gave the old plane a few triesHey, it do make some curlie things!  This might just work outYep, lots of curlies....Need to fine-tune the edge of the cutter, though. All of this from an old planethat i paid less than $14 for.... Just might work.... Planer? I'm the 'planer', and these are what I use...
March 13, 201412 yr That's pretty danged cool Steve, congrats on the restore!!! I love hearing the old planes remove wood! John MorrisThe Patriot Woodworker
March 13, 201412 yr Author Once I figured out just how to start this plane making a groove, I had no trouble at all getting a full depth cut, right to the bottom of the skate.   No chattering, just a kind of Schweeeesh as it went along.   Still have a few things to do on it, but for now... This is only a test.   Shouldn't have to use a router to cut grooves again.  And this is quieter than a router, too!   Maybe a shellac finish?  Or, just a wax/oil mix and wipe on/wipe off?  Might even try to fix the horn on the tote, someday..Wish I had had this plane when I was building that Tool Chest..Planer? I'm the 'planer', and these are what I use...
March 13, 201412 yr SteveYour adventures and all have taken you to places from years gone by. True old school. What a great journey to watch and learn from. I must admit, I understand the addiction. Keep up the great work and posts.Wayne MahlerGod bless and protect our troops that serve so we can be free.
