April 14, 201412 yr comment_3382 I've had a dewalt 14.4 volt cordless drill since 2002!. Haven't used it a lot lately because the keyless chuck is starting to get stuck and I received the new porter cane one that I've been using regularly lately. Well my question is since the chuck is going bad , will the bushings and other stuff probably follow quickly? I found a replacement chuck for $30 and bare tool drill foe $75. But I can buy the dewalt 18 volt drill for $99. I don't need a second drill at moment but was just wondering if it was worth fixing. Report
April 14, 201412 yr comment_3386 MarkI have the DeWalt 14.4 also. My chuck started getting a little sticky, I cleaned it all up and it works for me. If I was going to replace the drill, I would go with the 18 volt. Battries last longer and has more power.Wayne MahlerGod bless and protect our troops that serve so we can be free. Report
April 14, 201412 yr comment_3385 What Wayne said Mark, I'd blow it out really good with compressed air, then flood it with wd-40 to see if you can get the chuck working again, if that works, then get in there with some swabs and clean out the oil that you just shot it with, and blow it out again. You may be able to salvage it. But yep, the 18v is the way to go. John MorrisThe Patriot Woodworker Report
April 14, 201412 yr comment_3384 I'll tag on with everyone else Mark. With age, the grease in the chuck gets stiff plus you have an accumulation of sawdust in there. Flood it with WD40 and blow it out.Ron DudelstonSite AdministratorAbove and Beyond WoodWorks Report
