April 14, 201412 yr I was perusing videos from our supporters on YouTube and came across Laguna' latest Band Saw addition the Laguna 14/12. The reviews are off the charts, and as one recipient of his new band saw put it after he set it all up, "She just showed up today! :0)... UN-boxed and setting up tomorrow in my guitar shop. This unit feels like military gear, with a super fine fit and finish! Time for some book-matches!" What I love about the saw, beside the entire saw, are the details such as the the lowering and raising of the guide system by a hand wheel, and the guide system itself, no moving parts. The rest of the machine speaks for itself. To see more of Laguna's video showcase, go to Laguna YouTube Page. For their entire line up of machinery and accessories you can click on Laguna Tools. Also, remember, when you buy from Laguna, not only do you get some of the finest machinery in the world today, but you are supporting an American based company, who also supports our veterans and active duty military in a huge, huge way. April 14, 201412 yr Laguna makes really nice stuff!I have had the pleasure of fingerprinting a number of their tools at the AWFS show in Las Vegas last summer and they are all top notch. My wife Tami and I also got to talk to Torben Helshoj and his lovely wife Catherine at the show and they are wonderful folks to deal with. Allen WorshamCorona, CAallenworsham@earthlink.net'Graze in every man's field, but always give your own milk.' April 15, 201412 yr Author Great commentary guys, yep, it's one helluva a saw it appears. But, it's not mine, so no review coming in the near future. The quote above was from one of the guys who posted on Laguna's Youtube Page. Someday, I'll have one, they look like the cats meow for sure. My cousin in San Diego bought one from Woodcraft over the Holidays, and he loves his, said it's a beast! And the fit and finish is in a class of itself. When one of you guys get one in your shop, let's hear about it!!! John MorrisThe Patriot Woodworker
May 8, 201412 yr The extrusion for the fence is a little thin. I am surprised they went with urethane tires instead of vulcanized rubber. I wonder if the tri spoke cast iron wheels leave too much unsupported wheel.I've read it's not a powerhouse at resawing. Well, to be fair, it is a 14" saw so resawing is not it's forte.Like the -7deg tiltlike the table lock. Most saws use a cross piece with rediculous hardware that gets lose in a weeklike the magnetic catch on blade cover - I converted mine to a magnet catch the first week of ownershiplike the work light. Why other saw makers don't include a light is baffling. The trunnion is nice for a saw of this size. But for $ 2Grand, Why not spend an extra Grand and get a larger saw like the Aggazani B-20?The newer design has bigger beefier everything when they upgraded that bigger machines, they did a hand-me-down for all the smaller ones so each size saw got the table trunnion motor etc from the next size up.Â
May 9, 201412 yr Author Cliff, for most folks there is a big difference between a grand more. I can speak for myself, if I had a grand to spend on a 14" BS and one came my way I liked, then I'd jump on it. It would take me a year or more to save another grand for the saw you are talking about. The 14" has been the bedrock of home shops all across the globe, the small foot print, is perfect for a two car garage. I guess what I am saying is, that grand more is a ton of money to folks, I could understand if you said "Hey, for 200 more you could have product "a" or "b". But to many a grand may as well be a million. Now I guess if you want to wait a year or two, or three to save that extra grand, and do without a saw, or deal with the run down saw one is using now, then that is fine, but if you are dead set on a 14", then the grand to spend on the Laguna would have to be a serious consideration for many in the 14" series. I guess what I am saying is, the way you presented the "grand more" was kind of airy as if everyone has a "grand more". Hey, let me just pull a grand out of my pocket and get what I want. Just my thoughts, ramblings actually. I am not slamming you Cliff, I am just trying to be real in what the average Joe Woodworker has in their savings account, and most of us don't have a "grand more".
