May 27, 201411 yr Several weeks back I was out and ran across this old tool. It looked really cool and has a patent day of October 12 1897 on it. The guy told me what it was but I thought he was pulling my leg, but I found the tool interesting enough I went on and purchased it as the price was right. So I thought I would throw it out here and see if any of you know what this is. They are about 12 to 14" long. I have been told many things by people but most don't get anywhere near close. That part just look wicket. And the ball will pass through the hole. So what is your guess on what kind of tool this is? I'll give you a little bit and then throw out a tip if no one is getting close. May 27, 201411 yr I think this is from the Marquis de Sade collection. Actually, probably a cherry or olive pit remover. Lew Kauffman-Wood Turners Forum HostTime Traveler and Purveyor of the Universe's Finest Custom Rolling Pins!

May 28, 201411 yr Author Gene Howe was right on top of it. Charles Passmore of Fulton, IL patented these tools. http://www.datamp.org/patents/displayPatent.php?id=13289 My great great grandfather was a cobbler in the 1800's so when I saw these I had to get them. They are used to stretch the shoe to give room for bunions. http://www.rubylane.com/item/522414-cl003128/Vintage-Lightning-Bunion-Pliers-Fulton I got this pair for 10.00. Way to go Gene! May 28, 201411 yr Hey no googling allowed on these!!! I am curious too Gene! TO THE PLANK WITH YE!!!! On Gene's defense, John, how do you google images if you don't know the name of the item? I am curious for my own reference because there has been many items in the past that I was curious about and perhaps there is a way to google with images? May 28, 201411 yr Grandpa had one. Wasn't sure that that was it's intended use, though. He was a farmer. Used lots of tools in unique ways. I think his maxim was "I can fix anything on this farm with a 12" screwdriver, baling wire and a crescent wrench." No hammer in the tractor tool box. The crescent had lots of ding marks, though. My dad used the same maxim with the addition "If I can't fix it with a 12" screwdriver, baling wire and a crescent wrench, the problem is electrical." Grandpa never had electricity on the farm. No duct tape, either.Gene'The true soldier fights not because he hates what is in front of him, but because he loves what is behind him.' G. K. Chesterton
